coNTRACT lOR SUBSTRU~JRE AND BACEWAY INSTALLATION AT QUARRy ROAD
SUBSTATION
Ke~ers of the council:
This report requests that Council award a contract in the amount
of 569,696 to Vanalt r.o~, for substructure a~d raceway system
installation work required ~or addjtional 12kv feeder lines from
thE new Quarry Substation Svitchgear and for the SCADA
installation. In addition, staff recommends that Council
autho~i~e the City Manager or his designee to negotiate and
execute one or more change orders to the contract for additional
related but un~oreseen work. The value of these change orders
shall not exceeo $10,000. Funds for this project 'Were available
in the FY 90/91 Electric Fund CIP, and will be carried forward in
FY 9 1/92 Budget.
Background
This project is part of an ongoing main project call~d Quarry
Road Substation 12kv Feeders, started in fisc~l year 1989/90 to
maximize the utilization of the two transformers which were
installed in 1986-87. The first step, vhich is now complete, was
to install a new B-feeder switchgear unit to replace the existing
svitchqear which ie old and due for retirement. The second step,
which will be performed in this contract, is to install a new
raceway system to place cables and ccnnect additional 12kv feed~r
lines to the distribution netvorks~ Benefi~~ include increased
reliability to support any future load increase in the area and
provid~ the provision of a second standby line to the Stanford
Hospital.
project Description
This p~oject involves trenching and installation of one pre
fab~icated concrete cable pit and primary duct banks required
for the new 12kv feeder lines~ In addition the raceway syste~ for
connecting the SCADA to the Quarry 4kv svitchqear and the 60kv
oil Circuit Breaker will also be installed by the contractor. The
contract also includes all conduit installation work between the
new s~itchqear and the concrete cable pit.
