The Health Resource Coordinator, approved by Council in April 1981 as part of the stress management program, has been successful in workinq with police personnel to identify and minimize the organizatiol".al 60urces of stress. Since the program was implemented, only five. officers have filed stress-related disability claims; ten claims were filed i~ the two years preceding the program. Sufficient funding for the proq~am, not to exceed $36,750, is inc~uded in the 1991-92 Police Depart~ent budget. ~9ntractoI Ellen :Kirschman, the. current Health Resource Coordinator, '\Ii'as selected in June 1983, after competing in an extensive assessment process. Her bacKground ir.eludes 21 years of experience as a psychotherapist vith an emphasis on law enforcement officers and their fa~ilies. She is a licensed psychologist and is nationally recognized as an expert on organizational behavior. Dr. ~irschman's continuation in tbe progra~ is reccmmended based upon ber eight years of satisfactory performance with the Police Department. The Health. Re.scurce Coordinator assists in conflict resoluti")n between individuals and groups, identifie6 sources of organizational stress and consults with wor~ units and individual managers to resolve issues.
