REPORT IN BRIEF
The Histor;( Resources Board unanimously recommends tnat the City Council
adopt « Resolution approving the applfcation and certification agreement for
the Certified' local Government Historjc Preservation Program.
DISCUSSION
The Certified local Government Preservation Program is a federal ,ertificatio~
program that entitles cities to obtain limited federal grijnts for local
preseryat~on efforts. includlng such preservation programs as nominations to
the National Register, review of applications for rehabilitation investment
tax credits, and environmental review of h'storic projects having federal
invoTveme.,t.
Tne Historic Resources Board discussed this program at its meeting of July 3,
19~1~ -and voted unanimously to recommend that tne City COUflCil approve Palo
Alto's participation in this program. City staff supports this
recounendat 1 on.
RtcOHMENDATION
Historic Resources Board recommends that Cit~ Council ippro~e the attached
Resolution approving the app1;,aticm and certification agreement for the
Certiffad lo,~l Government Historic Preser~ation Program.

RESOWTIDN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTG
APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE FILI~G OF AN
APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION UNDER THE CERTIFIED
LOCAL GOVE~~NT HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Congress under Public Law 89-665 has
authorized the establishment of a Certified Local Government
Historic Preservation Progra~: and
WHEREAS# the Califcrnia Department of Parks and Recr~ation
(the III OepartmentW ) is responsible for-the administration ot the
program within the State of California, setting up necessary rules
and procedures 90verninq application by local agencies under the
proqram; and
WHEREAS, said adopted procedures established by the
Departlltent require the applicant to certify by resolution the
approval of applications prior to sub~ission of said appli~ations
to the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
RESOLVE as fo!lo~s:
~~ The City Council hereby approves and authorizes
the filing of an application for certification under the Certified
Local Government Historic Preservaticn Program.
SEC'IIO'N 2. The. A.ssistant Planning Official or his
authorized representative is hereby appointed to coordinate,
process, and execute all contracts, agreemen~s. amendments, and
ancilla~ aocuments within the scope of the attached application
for cert1fication.
