Fire ~raininq Exercises
This is an informational report and no Ccuncil action is required.
The Palo Alto Fire Department ~ill, with the permission of the property
owners, conduct training Exercises in six vacated single family dwellings
located at 420-461 Jacobs court. -The training is to include simulated
Search and rescue, smoke removal, forcing entry into locked structur~sl
ladder and f ire hose placement, actual extinguishmer:.t .of interior f ires I
and arson inve.stigation.. Palo Alto is currently hosting b.o regj~nal
State Fire Marshal fire cause investigation classes. This live burn will
give participants in these classes firsthand experience in determining
ho'll/' e.a.ch fire starte.d, a.nd in preparation of an arson case. through a
simulated court hearing.
All residents within 300 feet of the immediate area have been
appropriately InfOrtaed of the training exercises. Several re.sidents
called requesting additional information. All the resident reactions
were. favorable and no complaints of any kind have been received.
The controlle.d interior fires will provide firefighters with invaluable
experience that could not be obtained in any other "lay. This training
enhances the Department's ability to maintain the highest level of fire
protection services to the community.
The forcible entry training ".till be conducted throughout the tI'.onth of
April Until May 1, 1992. The interior ~urning ~ill occur on April 20,
1992 only. starting at approximately 9!OO a.m.
