On October 31, 1990 bids were rec.ived to provid~ laundry services for
Fire Department uniforms. This report BwmDarizes the bid proposals
receiVed and requests that council award a three year contract to Austins
FrellOnt Laundry.
Background
Since 1981, the city of Palo Alto has provided laundry services for the
Fire Department as negotiated in the MemorandUll'l of Understanding (MOU)
with the International Association of Firefighters ,rAFFJ, Local 1319.
On December 1, 1990 the present three year contract will expire.
In order to be consistent with past years' agreements and to reduce
staff's contract preparation time, it is beneficial to enter into a three
year laundry contract that is consistent with the present MOO. The
contract is written for three years with the provision for annual review,
budqet approval and authoriZation by Council, and mutual acc.eptance~
Funds for this service are available in the fiscal year 1990-91 Fire
Department budget.
Bid Eyaluation
Eight firms were invited to bid. Only two firms submitted a bid. The
low bidding vendor is the present service provider for the Fire
Department and bas been providing hiqhly competent service4
Recoyendation
staff recommends that COuncil authorize the Mayor to execute a three year
contract with Austins Freaont Laundry in the amcunt of $34,941.50 per
year, Subject to armual review and continued budget authoriz.ation by
COuncil.
