THE HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL
Palo Alto, California
Fire Station Dormitory Mpdifications, err 18916 -Rejection of Bids
Members of the Council:
R@Ort in Brief
This report recommends that Council reject all bids received on May
7, 1991, for the Fire Station Dormitory Modification Project.
Background
This project will modify locke~, bath and dormitory facilities in
Fire Stations 1, 3 and 5, to provide privacy for male and female
"firefighters. The work will be accomplished during regular 'Working
hours and will not impact the stations' operations. The remaining
two stations will be modified during FY 1991-91a
piscussion
Bid packages were distributed to approximately 20 contractors;
however, only two bids were received. Both the low bid of
$261 1 464, and the second bid of $358,659 were above the engineer's
estimate of $230,000.. Because these bids exceed the project budget
and because so few contractors responded, staff recommends
rejection of the two bids and rebidding the project ..
staff has talked with several of the ccntractors who did not
respond and believes, that by rescheduling the project and
extendinq the bid period 1 additional bids will be received. Staff
vill return to Council .ith a recommendation after completion of
the next bid process.
Recgmmendation
Statf recommends that Council reject all bids for the FirE Stations
Dormitory Modifications project, elP 18916.
