Funds have been appropriated in Public Buildings Structural Improvements, elP 18508, and HeatingfVentilation at Lucie Stern, elP 18911. BackgrQund This is the last in a series of phased structural seismic improvement projects at the Lucie Stern Community Center. Previous phases included seismic retrofitting in the Children's and Community Theatres, and the Recreation Division offices (Ruth stern Wing and Wing B). The final pt • .J.se of work consists of modifications to bring: Wing A and the community Theatre offices into compliance with current building and seismic codes. Included are the reinforcement of structural connections between the bo..lilding walls at the .foundation and roof, rea~tachment of tiles to the roof, and restoration of floors and walls affected by the work. Also, heating/ventilation equipment will be installed in Wing A and the theatre offices, and will be upgraded in the Community Theatre auditorium. Discussion Bids yere received from 12 qualified contractors as shown on the attached summary. Staff recommends that the bid of $367,111 submitted by Echo West, Inc. be determined by Council to be the lowest responsible bid and that the contract be awarded accordingly. This bid is 8 percent lOllisr than the engineer's estimate of $4001000~ The planning for this project was done two years in advance and bas been coordinated with the facility users.
