TEMPORARY DOWNTOWN PUBLIC PARKING

This is an informational report ... no Council action is required.
The developers of the project at 25,0 University Ave.nue (Plaza
Ramona) have generously offered to make available the private
parking: spaces located in the second underground level of the
project, at no cost to the City .. :tor use as public parking .. for
a temporary period of time. The main tenant of the building
is r~t expected to occupy the premises until early next year,
at which time the second underground level will revert to
private use as previously planned and provided for in the PC
zone. The first underground level is already designated for
public parking and will not be affected by any temporary
arrangements for public use of the second underground level.
The City will have the use of up to 69 additional parking
spaces for a period of 3 months or longer.. This will be
partIcularly significant and beneficial during the coming
holiday period. The City will install a limited number of 2-
hour parking signs throughout the second level,. provide nonaal
monitoring and enforcement of parking regulations,. and remove
the 2-hour parking signs when the use reverts to private
parkinq.

A si.llar, temporary arrangement was made two years ago during
the h-oliday seasOf~ for the use of the surface: parking lot that
was loc::ated on this same site.. 'ftlat experience .... orked out well
and provided significant benefit in the form of additional
public parking during the most critical time of the year.
