This is an informational report and no council action is required.
Since August 1989, the City Council of Palo Alto has ~tracted
vith Datalift Corporation to process customer payments of utility
bills. The attached letter from Datalift is notification to the
City that on OCtober 31, 1990 Datalift will close its facility and
DO longer process payments for the City of Palo Alto.
This closur~ violates the current contract which allows Oatalift to
terminate its services without cause only by qivinq gO-days written
~ice to the City before the contract's annual renewal. The City
vill make every effort to require Datalift's services to continue
through November 30, 1990.
Staff froa the Utilities and Finance Departments have been meeting
to prepare a plan to process utility bill payments. other vendors
have been contacted, and it appears at this time that it may be
BOre cost-effective and the City's long-term interests 'Will be
better s*rved if utility bill processing is done in-bouse.
staff will return to council with specific recommendations and a
more detailed report.
