Municipal Resource Consultants (HRC) have prepared their analysis of the sales tax receipts through the fourth quarter 1989. based on collections from the first quarter of 1990. In the past6 staff has forwarded to the council MRC.'s Executive summary .. HOWeVer,. MRC has requested that the SUlIIlI1ary no lon<Jer be distributed "ince it con­ tains information on IndivIdual businesses. Several things in the report may be of interest to the council. First,. sales tax growth slowed somewhat from the previous quarter; thia was confirmed by the actual sales ta~ remittances made to the City throuqh June 1990. Second, the report shows that the Stanford Sboppinq center and stanford Research park together represent approximately 48 percent of the City's sales tax revenue (27 and 21 percent respectively). The Downtown Shopping District represents approlC1.ately 12 percent and the California Avenue Shopping DI.trict .ppro~imately 6 percent. Third. the three largest business segments In palo Alto are depart~ent sto~es# electronic equipaent~ and restaurants; toqether they generated 40 percent of the City's sales tax.
