Members of the Council:
This is an informational progress report regarding ongoing noise
problems at SyStellix" Incorporated" located at 3400 West Bayshore ..
No Council action is required ..
Background
On July 2, 19-90 ... Cou·ncil requested staff to report on the noise
situation and complair,t.s from residents about excessive noise from
a heat eXchanger unit on the property of Sy5temix, Incor;porated,
3400 West Bayshore Road. On July 5, 1990 .. staff submitted a report
(CMR:'07:0) to Council indicating that the heat exchanger in fact
violated the sound ordinance... particularly between 2 and 4 a.m.
The report also detailed plans to attenuate the noise.. These plans
included construction of a full enclosure along 'With sound baffles.
Progress
'1'0 date, the construction project is nearly complE-te. Police
officers using sou·nd :meters ~easured the beat exchangerl's noise
ou.tput on July 20 at 5:30 p .. D .. and on July 21 at 2: 45 a.lB. In both
cases, the noise level was within allowable City ordinance limits.
Staff expects that once the construction has been fully completed
(July 25 .. 1990). the noise level will be reduced even fUrther ..
Staff has notified residents in the area about the pr-ogress.
Continued monitoring of the situation will occur until staff is
satisfied that the problem is completely resolved.
