HomeMy WebLinkAbout0460.000- Auqust 9, 19910 THE BONOP~BLE CITY COUNCIL Palo Alto, California Red Ribbon -Expenditure of Funds Members of the council: o council actIon Is requ~sted to approve expenditures from the Red Ribbon Trust Fund to support the l~90 Campaign. All Reel Ribbon expenditures are expected to be offset by private dOnations into the trust account. Background Council vill recall that last year $37,965 in donations ~ere received to fund Palo Alto'S first Red Ribbon Campaiqn. At that time, a revenue account was ~$tabli6bed to provide a repository for the donations. In June 1990, Council approved the transfer of funds from the revenue account to the Police Department's Crime Prevention Program to cover the expenditures associated with last year's activities (CMR 36S:0). Because these ~ies are solicited trom the community for a specific ptirpose and in order for any unspent monies to be carried into subsequent fiscal years, the Finance Department has since established a Red Ribbon Trust Fund. There is currently a balance of $5,896 in the trust fund. Donations are already being received for this year's activities. Because of the difficulty in predictinq the amount oC donations that will be received and the difficulty in projecting the amount of expenditures, staff requests Council authorization to expend trust fund monies up to an illriOUnt not to exceed the SUll of t.he current trust balance and subsequent Gonations. staff anticipates expending funds for advertising, printing, promotional tee shirts, equipment rentals, speakers, educational/informational materials and .iscellaneous items.
