In addition, staff recommends that Council authorize the city Manaqer or hIs designe~ to execute one or more change orders for additional related but unforeseen work. The value 0:( these change orders shall not exceed $1,5-0'0.. Funds for this project were a7ailable in the FY 89/50 Electric Fund CIP, and will be carried forward in the FY 90/91 BUdget .. Background on December 6, 1984,. council approved a ten year proqrall to systematically convert all Mercury Vapor and Incandescent street lights in the City with the more efficient High Pressure Sodium street lights. To date, the City bas converted approximately 40 percent of the street lights to High Pressure Sodium. What remains to be done are a number of serIes street light circuits with direct burled cable or deteriorated street light conduit, in addition to & n.umber of street lights on wood power poles .. An increase in street light maintenance due to street light knockdowns, lamp burnouts~ and delays in receiving replacement parts, as well as the work required to install new street light fixtures in the nev underground district 32 bas slowed down the street liqht conversion process. Due to the high maintenance costs for the existinq lights, staff recommends maintaIning the qoal of converting all the street lights to High Pressure Sodium by the year 1995. Using City forces for this work would require work on overtime at a higher cost; therefore, staff recommends contracting this 'Wor1c: out.. This project does not inclode only pole replacement. project Description This project involves removinq and replacing 250 existing Incandescent and Mercury Vapor street light luminaires on wood • \ • ''''-.
