HomeMy WebLinkAbout0379.000- June 21. 1990 THE HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL Palo Alto, Calitornia 6 Contract for Installation and Removal of utility Poles Along Rear LOt Easements Members of the Council: This report requests that council award a contract in the amount of $166,073 to sturgeon Electric Company Inc. for installation and removal of 54 utility poles along rear lot easements. In addition, staff recommends that council authorize the City xanager or his designee to execute one or more change orders to the ~'tract with Sturgeon Electric Company Inc. tor additional related but unforeseen work. The total value of the change orders shall not exceed $20,000. Funds for this project are a~ailable in the FY 1989-90 Capital Improvement program, Electric FUnd ·OVerhead Extensions and Replacements-. Background There are approximately 8~~ ~tility poles in the City. Abcut balf of them are along rear lot easements, with those remaining located along the street riqht-of-way_ with an average life of 30 to '0 years~ the city needs to replace a minimum of 2C~ poles annually. The City 's crews are unable to replace 20'0 poles during a fiscal year, because of other capital Improvement projects and regular and unscheduled maintenance work. Because of this, the poles that have not: been replaced at the end of the fiscal year by City crews are replaced by contractors. Since replacing utility poles along rear lot easements is difficult and time-~suming, these poles are replaced using contract services in order to more effectively use City crews elsewhere. en",,,.
