Ke~rs of the Council:
This report. requests council approval of recreation program:
contracts which are revenue produ~inq and generate approximately
a 3C percent profit to the ci~y. The instructors have taught for
tbe city of Palo Alto [or a number of years,. and the programs
continue to expand as participat.ion continues to increase.
Approval is also requested of the annual Palo Alto unified School
District .cont.ract for use of scbool facilities to cooo,uct
recreation programs.
The Recreation Division utilizes a number of contractors 'Who
provide a variety of services and programs for the community. Fees
fo,r t.hese programs are re'!:ewed and. approved by the city. Should
registration Eor any of tl ~se programs fall short of the minimum
required. enrollment, the., .;.ctivity will be cancelled. MY fees
collected for cancelled ac~ivities will be returned to registrants,
'iiith no payJlent to the co~Jtractor. Tbose contracts which require

Parent/Baby SWim
Carol MacPherson-Remen and Cindy Baxter provide
specialized small group swim instru-ction for parents 'With
babies and pre-schoolers. Instruction is offered April
through October and enrollment is 300.
Palo Alto unified
School District
$25,000 Facility Rental
This agreement provides for the rental of .facilities to
-conduct recreation programs. The Recreation Division
uses Palo Alto Unified School District facilities year
rOUl'ldi .for programs "'bieh include youth and adult sports,
gym programs and special classes. They provide rental
of the Gun."l and stanford pools for summer programs,
gymnasiums at stanford., Palo Alto and Gunn for youth and
adult sports,. and classroom space at Duveneck and 1:1
Carmelo schools for summer camp programs.
Recommendation
staff recommends that Council approve and authori~e the Mayor to
execute the attached agreements to provide revenue producing
recreation programs on a contract basis and for the use of Palo
Alto Unified School District facilities for recreation programs.
