Members of tbe council:
This report recommends that Council award a contract to West Bay
Mechanical, Inc. in the amount of ~29,6(' for t~e installati~n of
vehicle exhaust removal systems at fire stations 2 and 3.. Fund:s
have been appropriated in CIP 18901.
Background
This. project provides for the installation of vehicle exhaust
removal syste~s at the City's fire stations. St~tions 2 and 3 were
selected by the fire Department as the first to be completed. The
remaining: t.hree stations will be completed during the second
qua rter of FY 9'0 -91 ..
Discussion
Bids were received from three qual i fied con-tract.ors as shown on the
attached summary. Staff recommends that the bid of $29~644~
submitted by West Bay Mechanical, Inc., be determined by Council to
be the. lo'We'St responsible bid and t.hat the contract be awarded
accordingly~ This bid is 21 percent over the engineer~s estimate
of $24~500. At the time the project was estimated, the extent of
modifications to the fire stations roofs could not be completely
determined. Therefore the cost (or special roof 'Work 1tI'as not
factored into the engineer's estimate. Staff has revie'We.j the bids
for this project. and finds ~he bid submitted by West Bay
Mechanical, Inc. to be competitive and reasonable.
Staff recommends that council:
Awrove and c.uthori ze the Mayor to execute the at.tached
contract 'With West Bay Mechanical, Inc. in the amount of
$29,644 for installation of vehicle exhaust removal systems at
fire stations 2 and 3.
2_ Auth~rize the City Manager or his designee to negotiate and
execute one or more change orders to the contract with West
Bay Mechanical, Inc_ the value of all of lJ'hi-.;h change orders
shall not exceed S3,OOO.

3. In consideration of such work, City shall pay Contractor the
amount specified in his bid in the manner provided in said
Standard Specifications dated 1972, as amended.
4. Concurrently with the execution of this contract, Contractor
shall provide City with the Contractor's Labor and Material
and Faithful Perfonnance Bonds and certificates of insurance,
including any lw'orker's compensation insurance required by the
laws of the state of California or otherwise required in said
specifications~
5. This contract shall not be assigned by Contractor .

undertakings whether oral or written are superseded bereby.
