Contr§ct for Relocation of O~ity Poles Along Adobe Creek for
Santa Claro Valley Water pi strict
Members of the council:-
'l'his. report requests tbat council award a contract in the amount
of $35,780 to W.P. Anderson Electric, Inc. for relocation of
nine utility poles and the installation of five guy poles along
~e Creek. In addition, staff recommends that Coun~il
authorize ~e City Manager or his 4esisnee to execute one or more
change orders to the oootract with V.F. Anderson Electric, Inc.
for additional related but unforeseen work: The value of these
change orders shall not exceed $5,000.00. Funds for this project
are avai1able in the FY 1989-90 Operating BUdget from the passage
of a BUdget Amendment on September 21, 1989 (CMR 453.9) for Santa
Clara Valley Water District Electric Utility Relocation Wo~k in
the amount of $138.000.

rear lot lines alooq Adobe creek. DUe to the high dollar amount
of the ~ob Request l SCVWO is not required to pay the estimated
amount initial1y~ but rather is billed the actual amount as the
~ork is completed. Work is being contracted out because of the
e~isting heavy ~orkload on City forces.
Project Description
This project involves setting nine poles baCK from
t~e SCVWD working right-of-way alonq Adobe Creek. setting
five quy poles. transferring all electrical attachments
and services to the relocated poles, topping the old
poles above the telephone and cable TV lines and restoration
and clean-up of the project site. All work will be
dOne with the lines enerqized. causing minimal interruption
to the cu&t~ers. The material for the project vi11 be furnished
by the City.

The follo~ing two
The engineer's estimate for the total relocation project was
$59,800. After the bldB were received, the SCYWD requested that
the city's Contractor install four additional guy poles. Based
on unit prices supplied in the bid, this request increased the
low bid of ~.F. Anderson, Inc. trom $31,900 to $35,780. Even
with this increase, V.F. Anderson, Inc. is still the low bidder
by a substanti~l marqin.

staff recommends that Council::
1) Authorize the Mayor to execute a contract with W.F. Anderson
Electric, Inc. in the amount of $35,780 for the installation
of 14 utility poles; and
2) Authorize the City Manager or his designee to negotiate and
execute one or more chang~ orders to the contract with W~F.
Anderson, Inc. the value of which change orders shall not
exceed $5-000.00
