ORDlNANCE or THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDIN~ T!IE ZONING ORDINANCE (ORDINANCE NO. 1324)
BY ADDING SECT10N 4.44 TO ARTICLE 4 DEFINING NEIGH
BORHCOD RE;CREATIONAL USE AND AMENDING SECTIONS
8.03 (R-3-G), BA.03 (R-3), 8B~OJ(R~3-P)~ 8C.03 (R-5),
9 ,03 (R..-lt), AND 9C.03 (HDA) BY-ADDING A SUBSECTION
TO INCLUDE NEIGHBORHOOD RECREATIONAL USES WITH A
USE PERMTT

The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as
follows:
SECTION 1. Section 4.44 is added to Article 4 (Definitions)
of the Zoning Ordinance (Ordinance No. 1324) to read as follows:
"Sec, 4.44 Neighborho0µ Recreational Use shall mean
a use which provides, primarily for the
surrounding residential area, a phys_ical
or. cultural facility, and which may pro
vide in connection with such·facility,
lessons and instructions. Examples of .
such faciiities are swimming pools, ice or
roller skating establishments, gymnasiums,
arts ahd crafts centers, tennis· clubs,
and sitililar activities. Such use ·~shall. not
include buildings for theatres, billiard
parlors, bowli.ng lanes, dance halls, .
music halls' carni.vals' or similar us·es' or
facilities -for the consumption of food or
beverage·except as incidental to the
recreation.al use." · :' ,
SECTION 2. Section 8.03 (R-3~G) is amended by adding
subsection (b) to read as follows:
"Sec. 8.03 Uses Reguiring Use Pennits as Provided
in Article 23:
(a) •. Uses· as pennitted in R-2 Districts.

SECTION 3. ~ection 8A.03 (R-3) is amended by adding
subsection (e) to read as follows:
