ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF '111E C!TY OF PALO ALTO
ADDING SECTION 2.210.6 TO THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL
CODE ESTABLISHING THE DIVISION OF COMMUNICATIONS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION l. Division 2 of Chapter 2 (Administrative Code)
of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding
thereto a new-·section to be designated-sectio-n 2~210:-6 anri to
read as follows:
11 SEC. 2. 210. 6 DIVISION OF COMMUNICATIONS
This division shall be under the supervision of a
Communications Coordinator who shall be accountable to the
City Manager. His duties shall be as'follows:
1. He shall provide t~lephone service for all City ·
departments.
2~ He.shall operate and maintain the Ciiv mobile radio
telephone system a\\d shall provide radio dispatching
service for all City departments requiring such
service.
3. He shall operate and maintain the City fire alarm
system with the exception of outside circuit conductors
which shall be -che responsibility of the DepartmP.:nt_,
of Light and Power.
4. He shall provide and maintain special communications
services including but not limited to sound equipment,,
aqdio-visual aids, inter-office communicai::i_ons, and
centralized cHctat_:!.c~ /e~uipm.ent. He shall have _
custody of such .. ~quipment which shall be available
for use by a rt~~ber of City departments.

7. He shall mai.ntainoperating and maintenance-records
_for all communications equipment used by the various
departments of the City as may-be required by law
or in accordance with accepted operating practices.
8. . He shall recommend to the City Man.ager rules, regu
lations, and procedures governing the use and care of
communications equipment used by the various depart-
ments of the City. ·
9. He shall provide the City Manager with periodic .reports
which summarize performance, present position, and
planning for the-division; he shall also provide such
special reports as may be required from time to time
by the City Manager.
10. He shall perforr-i, such other dut~es as may be required
of hirn by the City Manager.
SECTiot-r2. Sub-section L of-Section 2.210-:2-oF-said Code
is hereby repealed and subsections 2_, 3, 4 and 5 are hereby
renumbered suosections 1, 2,3 and 4 respectively.
SECTION 3. Subs~ction 5. of Section 2.212 of said Code
is hereby repealed and subsections 6, 7, 8 and 9 are hereby
renumbered subsections 5; 6, 7 and 8 respectively.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall become effective upon the
expiration of thirty days· from its passage.
