ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
ADDING SECTION 10.04 TO CHAPTER 10 OF THE PALO
ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE DEFINING CERTAIN TERMS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows:
·sECTION 1. Chapter 10 of the ~alo Alto Municipal Code is

her_eby amended by adding thereto a new section to be designated
Sect'ibn fa. 04 and to read as follows:

"SEC. 10.04 DEFINITIONS
For the purpose of this Chapter, unless it is
plaii:tly evident from the context that a difft!rent
meaning is intended, certain tenns used herein
are defined as follows:
Augury. -art or practice of fo-..·etelling events
by auspices or omens; 'divination.
Cartomancy -divination by means of playing cards.
Clairaudienc~ -the act or the power of hearing
something not present_ to the ear but regarded as
· ha.ving objective reality. ·
'clairvoyance -the act or the power of·discerning
objects not present to the senses but regarded a::;
hfi~/ing objective reality.
Divination -the act or practice of foret·elling .
·or· foreseeing future ev·ents or discovering hidden
knowledge. '
Medium - a person supposed to be susceptible to
supernatural· or subnormal agenc'ies to such an .
extent as to be able to impart know~edge derived
from them or to perfonn a_ctiona impos·sible without
their aid. ..
Necromanc..x: -·the art of or a device. for .revealing
the ruture'by pretended communication with the
spirit of the dead. ·. _
Phrenologt .,. the study of the contormation of the
skull asndicative of mental faculties and traits
of chara~ier. ·
