HomeMy WebLinkAbout20260416 Tall Tree Awards - Gamble Garden HONORING GAMBLE GARDEN AS 2026 OUTSTANDING NONPROFIT WHEREAS, the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce and the Palo Alto Weekly annually present the Tall Tree Awards to recognize individuals, nonprofits, and businesses that have made exceptional civic contributions and demonstrated outstanding service to the Palo Alto community; and WHEREAS, the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden is a treasured nonprofit institution in Palo Alto, serving as a historic home and two-and-a-half-acre public garden that is open and accessible to the public; and WHEREAS, originally gifted to the City of Palo Alto in 1981 by Elizabeth Frances Gamble, the garden has become a place of beauty, learning, and civic pride, sustained by a dedicated nonprofit foundation and supported by hundreds of volunteers contributing thousands of hours annually; and WHEREAS, through its mission to maintain and enhance the historic property as a community resource for horticultural education, inspiration, and enjoyment, Gamble Garden enriches the lives of residents and visitors alike by providing a wide range of educational programs, community events, and volunteer opportunities that foster environmental stewardship, promote lifelong learning, and create meaningful connections across generations; and WHEREAS, as a free and welcoming public space, Gamble Garden stands as a symbol of community collaboration, historic preservation, and the shared value of accessible green spaces in the City of Palo Alto; and NOW, THEREFORE I, Vicki Veenker, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, do hereby recognize and honor the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden as the recipient of the 2026 Tall Tree Award for Outstanding Nonprofit, and extend my sincere appreciation for its outstanding service and lasting impact on our community.
