The Council of the City of Pa.lo Alto DO ORDAIN
as f ollcws: .
SECTIOM 1. That Sections 4601 to 4611, inclusj~ve,
of the Palo Alto-Building Code be and the same are
:y, he~e by repealed.
SECTION g. Th.at Sections 4601 to 4612, inclus:i.ve,
be added to the Palo .Alto Building Code to read as follows:

Sec·. 4602. .Any person, i'i+m or corporation
.(hereinafter called the applicant) applying for
such a permit shall file with the City Clerk an
application setting .forth the following infor:rnatiox1:
1 ... P:resent location of building proposed to
' be moved;
2. Locatic•n to v;h.i.ch it is proposed to move
b:u.iiding;
3. Route proposed to be followed 1.n .:noving
buildi:ng;
4. Alterations, if any, proposed to be made
.iz1 building;
5 a A list of ovmers of property wi t:b..i:n the
zone of interest and their addresses.

·Sec·~ 4603.. A fee of Ten Dollars ($10.00) shall
be paid on filing the application :for a p·ermit to pay
the cost of inspection a.nd passing on the application.

required for moving,. constructing or reco:n.structing
a building as provided in varios.s sections of this code ..
. . S,.ec. 4604. The City Clerk sha:ll, upon the
filing of such ·appl~.cation, notify the E1.iilding
Inspector ..
Sec .. 4605. The Building In.spec tor shall inspect
the pre.mises and submit a written report •:::overing the
following:
l. Type .of constr<letion, age, and _present
condition of building proposed to be moved;
2 .. Kind, size, and number ot: trees along
propos:ed .route o;t' moving which might be damaged and
extent thereof; a. Number of power lines and house services
.which would !iE.ve to be disconnected to permit the
moving;
, 4. Estima.te of time required reaso::i.ably to

The zone of interest shall i:n.clurl.e all property
on both sides of the same street or streets as the
property to which it is proposed to mc)ve the building
any part of r.hich is 2·75 feet, or less, from -che
nearest corner of the property to w.hic~h it is .
proposed to move: the bu.ildi:ng, as mea:;:ured on the:·.
center.-line of the street; and any property ·
immediately opposite shall be included; and widths
of intersecting streets sball be included in the
measurements. In case the property to ~l:d.ch it
1.s proposed to move the buildi.ng is s:1.tuated on a
eorner, the zone of interest shall inc·l ude the
proper·ty. on. all str:iaets on i'Ihich the property to
which 1 t is proposed to move the building fronts
as measured above.
,aec. 4607. The Board of Public Works shall
r.ece-ive the application at its next regular meetii:ig
occtlrrin.g not less than ten calendar days after
the date of' filing of the application with the
City Clerk. 'Xhe Board of Works .shall hear at that
time all persons who may appear to support or
protest the gra.nting of the application. The
Board shall r.ave sole j ur i.sdicticin to e1 ther grant
or.der_iy the application, provided, however, that
if., 25% or mo.re, by number o.f the prope:rty owners
vdthin the zone of interest protest the granting
of the applic~tion the Board may grant a permit
011.ly by ur...animous vote.

granting the permit, may rec;.uire the owner to makE;
such changes or repairs to the building proposed
to be moved, as may, in the j"Udgment of the Board,
be necessary to comply ~,'•ith the provis:'.cns of the
Building Code of the City of Palo Alto~ The
Board may also, in its judgment, require cr....anges
in the route proposed to be used 1r. moving the
bu.ilding even though the route reG_'..l..irec. may be
longer than .the route proposed. The permit issued
by the Board o:f.' Public Works -sZiall stipulate that
all equipment used in "the moving operations shall
be subject to the approval of thz Super i."ltendent of
Streets~ In granting the permit the Eoard shall
fix a time limit with.in which the moving and
reconstruction operations sb.all be comp1eted.
~~!_i.60~. T.he Superintendent of Streets shall
b..ave the right to inspect all rollers, trucks, whe1sls,
dollies, tractors, or ether apparatus proposed to be
:.ised in the mo-..ring operations; and he s.hall be the
sole J:udge as to tl1e adeq~cy of' such equ:ip::nent, a::'ld
,;,ay reqUire the use of such apparatus a.s in his
joogme::it,, will not cau.se injury to stre1;!ts or pavements.
' Sec~ 4610. The applicant sr.c.11 ob··~ain a~'ld fi:Le
with the City Clerk 2.. surety bond, made payable to
the City of Palo Al to 1 1n aro.ou.nt equal to the esti!!lated
cost of tr..e repairs or. add:!. tio.ns to the build.1ng to
be. moved, but in no ~ase · s!i.ull the penal sum of the
. bond ·be less than $1,000 .. 00. The bond shall be
condi tion.ed t:o cover faitr..ful performanc:e oi' the vmrk
in 2.ccordance with the drawings a.."1.d spec:ificaticns,.

Sec~ 4611. The Building Inspector shall not
issue the permit until the bond, as required above,,
shall b.a.ve been ~1led in proper and satisfactory
form.
Sec. 4612. No provision herein set forth shal1
be. construed to waive or alter 'any provi:3ion of
the Zoning Ordinance or the Building Cod(~ of the
City of Palo Alto.
The above and foregoing ordinance ¥ms duly
.s:nd regularly introduced at a regular meeting <lf the
Counc:i.l of the City of Palo Alto held 011 Monday, 'tne
21st day of. J a.n7.:ary, 1935, and was th~ea.t'ter on Monday,
