HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2274./ • ORDINANCE NO. 2274 ,_ ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1.324, THE ZONING ORDINANCE, ' BY ADDING SECTION 22.11 ESTABLISHING PJEQUIREMENTS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF PARJO:NG LOTS I The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. , '!'hat Ordinance No. 1324, the Zoning Ordinance, be amended by a9,ding thereto Section 22.11 to read dS follows: "Sec. 22.11 -Required Improvement and Maintenance of Parking Lots All parking ~ots inclu~ing autom~bile and trailer sales areas shall be developed and maintained in accordance with the following minimum specifications: (a) Surface of Pa:t"kin_g Lots. Parking lots shall be peved with an asphaltic·or concrete surface and shell have adequate drainage and grading as determined by the City Engineer. (b) Safety Barrie!~S 1 Screening and Il.l~mj_nf!t:i,?n (I)· Every parking lot that is not sepa~ated by a fence frOID any street or alley upon which it abuts, shall be prov:ided with a suitable barrier not less than six inches (6") in height, located not lE:ss than two feet {2') from such street or alley and so as to pr.event any,_i portion of any vehicle parked on st:_\:~~ lot. ·from exter:!~ing over a public ~idewalk or right of way. Such barrier shall-be s~curely installed and maintained. No such barrier shall b'e requfred across anf driveway or entrance to such parking lot. (2) Every p_arking lot_,'abutting p,roperty located in one of th~ ''R" residential distfic·ts shall be separated from aueh prcp~rty by a solid wall, view-obscuring fence or coa:apact ·evergreen hedg.a si'x feet (6') in height mf!asuted from the gradec ·of th~{ finished surf.c::e of sucll( parking lot clo8est to the con­ tiguous ''R" zone property, proVided that in all zones' :in which a front yard is required, such wall, fence or.·hed.Je si.J:all meet .the. Vi3ion clearance ·requirements of ;>ections 34.501, 34.504 ~;~nd ·~2.13(c) of the Palo .Alto'MunicipaJ Code. (c) Entrances and Exits. The location and design of all entrances and exits shall be subject to the approval of the City Engineer. {d) Conformity Required~ All existing parking lots not presently conforming to the requirement& of this section shall be brought.into conformity on or before July 1, 1967. (e) Exceptions. The pro..-isions of this section·-shall not apply to parking lots appurtenant to single-family and duplex -residential uses." · SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective upon \:he expiration of thirty days from its passage.
