l'ION, LICENSXNG AND BONDING OF GAS APPLIANCE DEALERS
AND FUll:NACE DEALERS; REQU.IRING A PERMIT FOR THE IN
STA:r..LATlON OF GAS APPLIANCES. FURNACES, GAS VENTS
AND/OR GAS FLUES; PR01VfDING FOR BOARD OF EXAMINERS
AND APJf>EALS; DEFINING CERTAIN TERMS; ESTABLISHING
MXNIMUU REQUIREMENTS FOR 'I'l:IE SALEJ. INSTALLATION, AL
TERATIO:N AND/OR REPAIR OF GAS APPLIANCES, CENTRAL
WARM-Al!R HEATING APl'LIANCES, GAS VENTS AND/OR GAS

Ser.. 201. Regiatr:i.tion. Every person who offer~ Gas App!i;mces
or C<!ntral Warm-Air Heating Appliance:: for reta.il or who sells Gas Ar1pli
anc~:'.' .. -:1r Central 'Warm-Air furnaces at retail, and evc:ry person who
in~talb and/or repairs Gas Applianc•:s, Central Warm-Air Heatini;: Appli·
ance~. Gas Vents :.ind/or Gas Flues in the City of Palo Alto shall regi~ter
hi~ name and address with th•: Department of Building and shall re<:eive .i
proper licem1e authorizing him so to do. He shall notify the Department of
Buil<ling of any change ,,f address.
Sec. 202. Examination. It sh;i.11 be unlawful for any person, except
an Owner, a:; provided for in sub-s~tion E o! Sectioo 210, to ini;tal!, alter
and/or rep~1ir any Gas Appli:ai1ce and/or Central Warm-Afr Heating Appli·
·ance. Gas Vent and/or Gas Flue until he has first Clbtained a license from
the Board 0£ Public Works of the City of Palo Alto. Such license shail be
issued only after a sati~facti.>r:r e:icamination of the appli<:a.nt th-:rdor.
Sec. 203.. License and Bon.di •
A. Gas .Applia11ce Dealei; s.ha!l have the. right to s.cll, instaU and/or repair
a.Ji gas and warm-air heating ;1pplianccs whe.n suitable outlets have been pro
vided (exc(~pt the right to install and/or repair water hc:l'tct'S acd central.
warm-air h~ating appliances), aftCl:' he has prOcured a Gas Appliance ~a.1-
er's Licen~: so to do. Such li1:cnsc shall be issued only after the: L~ Ftt
and Bond h::a.ve been paid and filed with the Department of Building and after
the applic:u:tt sh.all have p:.ss<:d a sati:ifactory C..'Camination before the Board

apply therefor at the office of the Building Inspector. All applications for
x>ennit~ shall. tie made on form~ provided for that purpose. The applicant for
$Uch. a. permit shall give such necessary infomiati0 n :i.nd description 0£ the
lo~tton and character of the work prvp.csed to be done, and ~uch other in·
formation as tile Inspeo::tor may require. ·.

See. 303. Dutiea. The Building "inspector :;h~ll maintain regular office
hours to receive plans and: specificatfons that pertain tc th• work· regul:ued
by this Ordinance to examine same and t~' r((;c:ve applkati.;>ns for and. issue
permits. He shall inspect ail work for which a Permit ii; rc<luircd. ~nd if
~aid work i$ in. compli:i.nc~ with thi"s Ordin~ncc aad any· and all Ordhi:i.neies

The Inspector shall make such inspection within twe!lty-four (24) hours of
