PART I
ADMINISTRATIVE
CHAP'l'ER I -TITLE
S"c· lOl. The following rules :ind Tegulation:; respecting the piuiubing,
drainage and hou~e· gas piping of buildings in the Cit) <>f Pal<> Alto :a.re
hereby adopted and an w<.1rk in respect theret() shall be performed as herein
required and not <ithei:-wi:;e, and this ordinance shall be l;nown and referred
t•) as "The Pali) Alto Plumbing Code".
CHAPTER II-GENER.AL PROVISIONS
!.ICENSE, BOND, EXAMINATION
Sec. ZOl. It ~hall he unlawful for any person to ~arry on business, or labol"
as a Master Plumi>cr, in the City of Palo Alto until he ihaH hav1~ obtained
a license frmn th<" Board of Public Works oi the City oi Palo Aho au:bor
iz.ing him to cnry on such business or labor.
Sec. 20:::. A license to ea.rrv on bt:siness, or labor as a ~!a~ter Plumber
shall be issued only after a iatisfactory examination by said Boord oi the
.appli.;-.a,nt upon hi:< qualifications to conduct such busincs~ or so labo;r.
Sec. 203. Every applicant for a license to do business ot labor a.s a 1faster
Plumber must file an application in writing with the Board <:>t Works giving
his n;i.me, add!'ess, age and place <if business, togethi:r -.dth· an i>pplie<\tion
fee of five ($5.00) doll:l.rs.
Sec. 20-I. Every license issued h:=reunder shall be subject to revoc;1tion
or ;uspension by the Board of Works f()!' violation by lhc h·:iidcr of such
license or by his agent or employee .. of any provision or r~uirement of this
code or of ~he mies and rcgt~latiorts hl'!'reunder cstabli!!bc<l. or Ordin:mees
amend.atory· th•~reof. o~ for the makinK of any false statement in the applica
tion for such licens~. Qr for any other cause which the Bt.ilding Department
sh:i.!l deem to he good and sufncicnt after notice. Such noti<:e of hc:i.ring
will be deemed to have been given when said notice ii. dcpooiti:d ill the
United States Post Office in a s~kd envelope addressed to the lken:><:e at
the address given i11 his application, and the postage prepa:1d, at lea~t five (5)

See. 205. Upon revocation of any license, all perm~t.s outstanding under
such license :shall thereupon beco:mc void "'nd shall be cancelled. When
any license ghall have been su5pc11ded,. no permit shall be issacd to the
holder of such Iicc.nsc and no new work for which a permit is required shall

Sec. 1707, HEIGHT ABOVE FLOOR FOR M'ETER OPENINGS. On
each house gas piping run of 29 outlets or. less the Opo'lin1r at the meter loca·
tion $hall terminate at a height of not less than thirty inches (30") above
!he floor, and when t:1er1! are more than 29" outlets the said opening shall
tl;'rminate at a height of not le~; than forty.eight inch-es (48"') above the floor.

work must be 1mcovered and ·convenient for examination. All necessary
tools. labor and assistance £.:):~ the requisite tests and in~.pe(:tions ~hall be
furnished by the person, firm or corporation having contrc·l of the work.
Sec. 1802. D.J::::rECTIVE :f'IPES, ETC., PROHIBITED. \\Th~:n upon ex
amination by thr~ Plumbing lnspector, it appc:u·s that :my water pipe work
is defective. either in c.<instruction or material, the same shall be altered or
r!!paired to conform to the re·gulations set forth in this Ordinance.
