The Counci 1 of the City of .?al o Al to do
ordain as· follows:
Section 1. It shall be unla.wiul for any
person 1. firm or corporation to peddle or solicit,

or from plac.e to place, or in the streets offer to •
sell, barter or excfl..ange, or sell, ·carter or
exchange anythi:rg, whether th en in his actual
possession or not, With out fir st :pro cu~ing a writ ten
:permit from the C.nief of Eolic e, or hifl a.u tho~i zed
deputy so to do, as .r..er,einafter provided.
Sec. 2. All pernits shall ·oe issued by
the Chief of .?olic e or hie deputy, and he shall
keep a record showing the num·oers thereof, to whor:i
issued, the kJnd of business for which they are
issued, the dat~ of is ·eu e and the date of expire. ti on
of the permlt. It Siall be nscessarJ for each appli
cant for a. permit-to truly answer all questions re
lating to nis blsirtess, end any person who r:iakes a
:false stater:ient to secure a permit is guilty of s.
~isdemeanor. All such permits shall be issued
subject to all conditions, rJ.les a.nd reg..iletions of
the Board of .2ublic Safety of the--City of Palo Alto,
whic.h have been adopted and approved by resolution
of .said Board; it being expressly provided tb.at this
ordina..?ice does not exempt any person, firm or
corporatt on from p.eying any and all licenses re
quired by any ordinsnce of too City of Palo Alto.
,. Sec. 3. l~o permit granted or issued under
this ordinance shall be assignable or transferable,
nor iha.11 it avtb:·vrize sny person hot therein named
to transact the said bl sine ss.
Sec. 4. Any person holding a permit under
this ordina:r:ce smll prod1~e it, when applying for
renewal thereof, 9:1d v:h enever reque.sted so to do· by
a. police ~fficer, or person mth whom he is dealing.
Sec .. 5. This ordinance shall not apply
to salesmen or agents for wholesale houses or firms
who solicit orders. from a.ncl sell for resale to
retail dealers •
• Sec~ 6. Bvery person who shall violate
any of the provisions of this ord.i?lance shall be
guilty of a misdemean~r a1d on conviction thereof
shall be pu.nishe d b1 a. fine not exceeding five
hundi'ed($500.DO) dollars, or imprisonment for a
peii od not exceeding six months, or by both mch
fine and imprisonment.
The City Clerk is directed to post this
ordinance on the bul.leti n board at the city hal 1.
