AN_ORDINglCE PROVIDING FOR THE A.SSESsnBT OD
COHPLETIOB OF THE ASSESSMENT ROLL -'OF PROPERTY
IN THE FORMER TOWN OF MAYFIELD POR TAXATION FOR
MU:NICIPAL PURPOSES BY THE CITY OF PALO ALTO FOR
THE FISCAL YEAP. FOLLOWING THE FIBST MONDAY IN
MARCH,· 1925.
~he Council of the City of Palo Alto
DO OP.DAIN as follows:
That WEEP.EA.S on Friday, the 8th day of
May, 1925, at an electicn d'41y called and held in
the Town· o~ Mayfield for the purpose of voting
upon the question "Shall the Town of Uayfield and
the City of Palo Alto be consolidated, 81td the
property in such municipal corporations b~ taxed
at ·the same rate to pay the bonded ind.ebtedness
tbereof?n the majority of voters, voting on said
proposition at said election voted in favor of said
consolidation.
And WHEREAS thereafterwards, the same
question wae submitted by the Council of the City
of.Palo· Alto to the electors of said city at an
election held on the second d~ of Jul.y, 1925.
And WHEREAS it appears from the c.anvass
of the returns of said election that a majority of
the votes cast at said election were in favor of
said consolidation.
And WHEP.EAS said consolidation has been
completed and the Town.of Ma7field and the City
of Palo Alto are consolidated.

And WHEREAS it appears that under the
provision of an act of the Legislature of the State ·
of California entitled "An Act to provide for the
Consolidation of Municipal Corporations•tpproved
June ll, 191~ ae amended to date, it ie provided
the property in any suoh municipal cor:poration
consolidated under the provisions o~ this act after
12 o'clock meridian of the first .Mond~r of drch,
and before the compl-etion of the' assee1sment r~:ll
of said municipal corporation having a greater
population shall be subject to taxatio11 for mumi
cipal purp,osee by said consolidated c11;y for the
fiscal year following ea.id first Monday of March.
And WHEREAS said consolidatj.on ha.a ta.ken
place between said dates:set forth in E1aid Act.
And WHEREAS 1 t oecomea and :1.e necessary
for taxation purposeiB that t.lle assessmE1nt of all
property within the :former Town of ~ay:neld should
be equalized in conformity wi tll toe aef:essments
made in the City of !alo Alto for .said fiscal year,
and for said purpos.,.~ that an assessment. should be
made of propertr in the Town of Mayfield in con
formity with the plan adopted for the a.seessment of
taxes in Palo Al to :in order that the assessment for
municipal purposes, and to pay the bonte:d indebted
ness o! the consolidated city, shall be plac&d upon
an, equal aDd eve~ basis in said consolidated city.

And WHEREAS it becomes necessary that Article
One (1) of Part Two f2~ of Codified OrdinancEt ;.o. 2
of the City of Palo Al to relating to assessmeint,
levying and collection of taxes should be sui:1plemented
by this ordinance, providing for the contingency
which has arisen by the fact o! consolida·ti O!lt.
NOW THERE.FORE IT :LS HEREBY ORDERED tha.t
the City Assessor of the City of Palo Alto make
and complete ·an aseesslllent roll of all property
in the former Town of Kayfield under the plan and
method:of assessment of property in the City of
Palo Alto. That said Cit7 J.3eessor shall complete
said Assessment Roll on or before the 20th day of
August, 1925. That said assessment roll shall
remain open for inspection thereafterwarde until
the 27th day of .August, 1925.
That the :Board of Equalization. ehe.11 c·ontinue
its meeting held on the first Monday ·~n August,
1925, or from the date to which said meeting i:nay
be adjourned, from day to day while the retur.ns of
the Asseeeor from the City o! Palo Al to are b 1eing
rectified, to Thursday, the 27th day of Augua·t,
1925, on which date said Board of Equalizatioio. shall
sit, as a :Soard of Equalization, to hear complaints
and correct, modify or strike c1ut any asseesmc:tnt
made by the Assessor for said Town of .Msyfielcl,
and for this purpose may continue their sesei 1:me
from day: to day until such assessments for the~ Town
of Mayfield have been rectified and equalized.. The
assessment roll so recti:fi ed and equalized shall be
the aesess.ment roll of the consolidated city <)f .i?elo
Alto for fDe fiscal year commencing July 1, 192b,
and ending June 30, 1926.
The above and foregoing ordinance is herepy
declared to be a case of eme~gency, which eme1"gency
arises out of the :fa.ct of corisolidation and the
neceesity for the readjustment of assessment values ·
and the completion thereof in tim.e so that taxation
for. municipal purposes by the City of Palo Alto may
be··completed so as to be effective for t.hg prE1se11t
fisca): year. ·"''
And by the unanimou.e consent of all the
Council present at an adjourned meeting held in
the City of Pa.lo Al to the 2nd day of July, 192.5,
a!-1 ril.les for the passage of ordinances are su.spended
and the above and foregoing ordinance is adopted at
said meeting.
The City Clerk is hereby directed .to post
this ordinance on the Bulletin Board in the City
.a.all, . and the same shall go into effect immediately
upon the completion of said consolidation.
I hereby certify that the above aDd foregoing
ordinance was it,uly passed ae an emergency ordi:oance
as set forth above, at the adjourned meeting of the
Council held on the 2nd day of July, 1925, by the
following vote:

Bonn,Thoits,Willia.ms,Kelly, Thomas.
