DET'ERMINE WHETHER THE TOWN OF MAYFIELD SHALL
CONSOLIDATE WITH THE CITY OF P:\LO ALTO.
The iouncil of the City of Palo Alto Do
Ordain as follows;
Section 1. WHEP.EAS, the.City of ?a.lo Alto
is a municipal corfora.tion organized and e:xistil).g
un<ter a freeholder f:· charter of the State of
California; and,
. WHEREAS, the 'l'own of .Mayfield is a muni
cipal corporation, or town of the sixth class; and
:: WHEREAS, in pursuance of an act to provide
for the c.oneolidation of municipal ~orporations
of the State: of Cal i:f'ornia, approved .June 11th,
1913, ae amended, the Board of Town ~rustees of the
~own 9f Mayfield, upon a petition of .not lees than
one-fourth in number of the oualified electors of
said Town of .Mayfield as shoWn. by the registration
of the electors of the County of Santa Clara, did
call a special municipal election to be held in
said Town of Mayfield on Friday, M8-V 8th, 1925, at
which election the electors of said town voted upon
the proposition, "Shall the Town of Mayfield and
the City of Palo Alto be consolidated and the
pre:perty in such municipal corporations be t·axed
at the same rate to pay the bonded indebtedn~ss
thereof?"; and
WHEREAS. the Clerk o:f the said Town of
Mayfi~ld did certify to the Clerk o:f the City of
.Palo Al to, by r.asolution du.ly passed by the Boa.rd
of Town '1rustees of the '£own of .ilol.&yfield that
the total number of votes giYen and cast at said
municipal election upon the proposition of co:o
sol.id.a.tion, was 639 votes and that of said total
number of votes so given and. cast at said election,
there were given and cast 357 votes in favor, of
said coneoliclatio:i, and of said total number of::
votes so given and cast, there were given and ··
cast 282 -v:otes. ag~:inst ::ia1e. c'onsolidation, and
that the Board of Trustees of the Town of Mayfield
cdid find upon the c~vass of said election that a
major! ty of ~:11 votes was given in favor of the
consolidation of the Town of Mayfield with the
City of Palo Alto, and that the ~ualified electors
of the ~own of .-a.yfield had authorized said
consolidation:
Sec. 2. .NOW, TBEP.EFO?:E, the Council of
the City of Palo Al to DO .. FURTHER OP.DAIN that a
special mun.ic ipal election shall be held on
Thursday, the 2nd day of J~ly, 1925, and which
said date is nereby fixed f'qr said special election,
at which there shall be submitted the tuestion

bonded indebtedness described as the bonded
indebtedne~s /f tile Town "Q.f Mayfield and .the
City of Palo Alto?" The Council of the City
.of Palo Alto calls said election and fixes the
date thereof, as above stated, as the city of
the greater population, and in accordance with;
the statute for this purpose, upon the receipt
of the favorable result of the election for
consoli~.ation held in the ~own of lieyfi·eld,
which, according to the last Federal census is
the town of leeser population.
Seo. 3. The City Clerk of the City of
Palo Alto is hereby directed to have the fellowing
election notice pubmi'shed fo.r five consecutive
weeks in the Daily Palo Alto Times, which election
notice shall be all the notice that is reouired
to be given in the matter of said special ·election.
Said notice is in words and figures as follows, to-
wit: '
"NOTICE OF SPECIAL JlU.NICIPAL ELECTION FOR.
THE PURPOSE .QF D£TERMINING THE QUESTION OF THE
COI~SOLIDATIOI~ OF THE T-OWN OF MAYFIELD Wl:'H THE CITY
OF PALO ~TO. .
NOTICE IS HEP.EBY GIVEN that a special
election will be held in the City of Palo Alto,
Col:.nty of S£nta Clara, State of California on
Thursday the 2nd day of July, 1925, a.t which time
there will be submitted to the qualified electors
of said city, the proposition to consolidate the
Town of Mayfield with the City of Palo Ajhto;
arid it is propC1sed that the ~roperty of said
_ municipal corporations be taxed at the same rate
to· pay the bonded indei:.itedness of said Town of
Mayfield 8.lld said City of Palo Alto. l'he bonded
indebtedness outstanding and authorized of the
said Town of Kayfield is approximately $100;000,
of which indebtedness approximately $32,·ooc is
pa,..ble ·-out of the earnings of the water plant
of said town. ·The bonded indebtedness out-
. standing and authorized of the City of Pal.a Alto
.is t7SO,OOO of which indebtedness approximately
$560, 000 1~. payable. out of the earnings of the
municipal public utilities of the City of Palo
alto. · The maximum interest on esid bonds of
said Town and City is 5 per cent per annum.
IT IS HEP.EBY ORDERED that official printed
ballots shall be used for voting at said. election
and that the proposition to be voted upo·n shall
'be stated on the printed ballot as follows, to-wit:

Opposite such proposition to be voted upon
and to the right thereO:f, the words "Yes" and ".No"

If an elector shall stamp a cross (X) in the
voting square after the print-ad word "Yea", the
vote of said elector shal::. be counted in favor
of said consolidation; end if the elector shall
stamp a cross (X) in the voting square after.· the
printed word "No", th~ vote of such elector
shall be coi:.nted against said proposition.
For the purpose of said special
election. said c1t1 is constituted and established
hereby as three election precincts to be known
as ".llliunicipal Election .Precincts Nos. 1. 2 and
3n all inclusive. ·
That the sa.id voting p.recinots and the
places of polling therein, at which the polls
in such pre.cincts will be held on sd.d day of
said election in said city shall be and are hereby
established, created and designated as follows,
to-wit:

portion of the c1t1 of ~ale Alto located within
2recincts 1, 2, 4, 5, and o, ae constituted an~
deeignated by the County of Santa Clara for
general, state and county elections is consolidated
into and shall constitute and be designated as
Municipal Election Precinct lllo. l, for said
election, and the place of voting in said Precinct
No. l shall be the council chamber room at the
city hall on Ramona Street between University
Avenue and Lytton Avenue in said city.

and who shall constitute the election ooard of
said Municipal Election .Precinct :No. l are hereby
appointed as follows, to-wit:

Seo. 4. The City Clerk of the City of Palo
Alto is hereby directed to cause the a~bove and
foregoing notice of election to be pub:j:.ished in the
Daily ialo .d.l to Times, a daily newspaper of general
circulation published and circulated within said
city, at least once a week for a ~riod of four
successive weeks next preceding the dc.te of sa.i d ,
election. No further notice of said election nor
sam}ie ballots need be mailed.to the electora. 'i'he
Clerk is hereby directed to ... cause ballots to be

The City Clerk ie directed to post this
ordinance. upon the "bulletin board at the city hall.
1 The above and foregoing ordin&Dce was
duly passed by the Council of the City of Palo
Alto at an adjourned regular meeting held on the
let day of June, 1925~ by the following vote:
