119 OF ARTI.CLE XII 01 PAR1' III OP THE CODIFIED
ORDINANCES OF TEE CITY OF PALO ALTO, RELATING
TO TREES AND HEDGES

The Council of the City of Palo Alto
do ordain as follows:-
Section 119 of Article III of ~art III
of: the Codified Ordinances ~f. the City of Palo
Alto, revised January, 1924, ie hereby amended
to read as followe:-
.§ection 119• (l) Any owner or ooo·a.pant
of a building, lot or premises, shall keep all
sidewalk trees and hedges properly trimmed iD
such a manner *hat the same shall not interfere
with the free use of the s~dewalks or roadway.
(2) lo sidewalk trees shall be planted
without permission of the ~uperintendent of
StreetsF who shall determine the species and
their locationo
'3) All tree a, hedges and growth at
the corners of intersecting streets, whether
on the sidewalk or within the lot or premises,
shall be so trimme·d that the height of same shall
not exceed :four feet above the carb 1 evel fc-r
a dis.:tance of twenty feet measured ho1·1zontally
in any direction from the point of intersection
of the property lines at street corners·; provided
however, that trees whose main trunks are ex
posed to a height of seven a:od one-half feet
above the curb ·may not b& ~o trimmed or cut.
( 4) De:ad sidewalk trees or those that
are objectionable because of excessive size or
location, or that cause injury to street
stru.ctures, shall be removed at the expense i:>f
the owners.
(5) No new hedges shall be planted
closer than twelve inches to the pro~erty l~ne
of any street.
The Cit7 Clerk is hereby directed to
post a copy of this ordinance on the bulletin
board at the City Hall.
The above and foregoing ordinance was
introduced on the 8th day of December, 1924, and
thereafter duly passed on the 13th day of April,
19.25, by the following vote:
