ARTICLE I, PART II CODIFIED ORDn;ANCES OF TEE
CITY OF PALO ALTO RELATII~G TO ASSESSMENT, LEVY
AND C~LLEC7ION OF TAXES.
l'he Council of the City of Palo Alto do
ordain as follows:
Section l. Section 1, Article I of ?art
II is amended to read as follows:
. Sec. 1. ASSESSI1111!'li T. Betwe·en the :f'i rat
llilonday of' March and the first day of July of ea.ch
year, the City Assessor shall asce~rtain the names
of_ all taxable inhabitants and all property
within the City of Palo Al to subje·ct to taxation
by the city, and must assess such property to the
persons by whom it is owned or cla~~ed, or in
whose pos~ession or control it was at 12 o'clock
l.1. on such first ~onda.y of March; but no mistake
in the names of the ovm.er or suppc1sed owner of
such property shall render the assessment thereof
inval.id. In assessing sol vent c:redi ts not
secured by mortgage or trust deea:., a reduction
therefrom shall be made of debts d.ue to bona fide
r~sidents of this state. lie shall proceed, so
far as applicable in the same !hanner as provided
for the a.ct ion of county assessors by Chapter III
ot Title IX of ?art III of the ?olitical Code;
and must prepare an assess~ent roll of persons and
property subject to taxation, listed by block
number, in manner and form substa:r..tially as re-
. quired by Section 3650 of the Political Code o~
the State of California respecting assessments
for state and county purposes; Provided, however,
that all property may be described bJ' number,
which property shall also be given a like number
upon the city assessment block book, which block
book shall be so prepared and kept that all
property is correctly shown and described thereon,
and· such description by number on the assessment
roll, corresponding to the property as shown and
delineated upon the block book by actual number
shall be deemed for all purposes of the a~sessment,
levy and collection of taxes, a sufficient
description of said property to id•entify it. The
Assessor s~all sign and certify sa'id assessment
roll. He shall write in :.the tax :receipt blanks
a description of all property by said property
number, block number and the v~uation and names
of OWDers.
Sec. 2. Section 16 of Article I o~ ?art
II of the Codified Ordinances of the City of ?alo
Alto is hereby repealed. •
The Clerk is directed to post this oruinance
as provi~ed by law.
