AMEXJDING OR.DirtANCE NO. 254 The council of the City of Palo Alto do ordain as follows: Section lo Section XII of Ordinance No. 234, adopting a "Map Establishing Setback tines for the City of Palo Alto", is hereby amended: as follows: The setback line on the northwest side of Lytton Avenue between Fulton Street and Guinda Street in.: Block 48 is hereby &stablished at l.8 feet. . The City Clerk is hereby directed to post :this ordinance on the Bulletin Board in the City Hall and the same e.hall be in effect from and after its passage. - Passed by the C~ty Council at a regular meeting held on July 14, 1924, by the following vote: AYES: Bertsche,Blair.cottrell,Duvene~k.~sterday, I.austen,Mendenhall,Terwilli~er,Thoits, Williams.Wing. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to construct, operate or use:, or cause to be constructed, operated or ~sed~ any sidewalk elevator unless the same shall be equipped with some mechanical device which will prevent the platform of said elevator from approach­ ing within less tharifive feet of the sidewalk doors or.gratinp:s thereof when the said doora or gratinp,s are olosed • .. It ahall be unlawful for any person to open any sidewalk elevator doors or gratings, trap-doors or other openings, Un.less he is directed or permitted by the person, fi=m or corporation using th~ same, to open the same. It shall be unlawfUl for any person. firm or corporation opera.ting or using said side;walk elevat9r, trap-door, grating or other op.enin~s thereof, unless the same are protected on the opposite side by substa.ntia.'1.la.ttice, h~avy mesh, screened p,ate;· o:r barricade at least 30 inc:nes in height, securely held in place when doors are up or openinp;s mad~. such t?S-te or barricade may· be removed.upon the c:u:rb side during s. period of loading and unloading. AriY person, firm or corporation operating a sidewalk elevator, trap-door, grating, or other openin~ mu.st not allow the sidewalk doors thereof to be opened without first posting a respo~s­ ible person on the sidewalk at the said doors. Section 5. It shall be unlaw:f'ul for any person, firm or corporation operatinp,-or using-sidewalk elevators. gratinl'?s, .trap-d0ors, or other openings in sidewalks, to keep the .same open or perm1t th~ same to remain ~pen except durin~ the time n~cessary for the receiving or shippin~ of merchandise or supplies and unless provided with suitable p:uards as state•d, so as to prevent accidents to the public, and unless a lip,ht­ ed lamp sha.11 be ::iainta.ined at openings when ea.id doors or ~ratin~s thereof nre open after dark. The city clerk is directed· to post this ordinance on the bulletin board a.t the city hall.· Any person, firm or corporation viola-ting a!l..>"" of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine not to exce:ed five hundred dollars. or by irn.prisqnment in the county jail for ,pot ex­ ceeding six months, or by both such fine and i:n­ prisor..I:lent.
