ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ,l\LTO
AMENDING SECTION 18.08. 040 OF THE PAT.,O .1'.\LTO f'.\UN!C!PAL
CODE (THE ZONING !-tAP) TO CHANGE THE CLASSIFICATION OF
PROPER~ry KNOWN AS 33 70 WEST EAYSHORE ROAD FROM U·' TO PC
The Council of the City of Pn.lo Alto does ORDAIN as follo·~s:
SECTION 1. Section 18.08.040 of the Palo Alto Hunicipal Code,
the 11 Zon~ng r-tap," is hereby amended by changing the co:oning of cer
tain property kn0wn as 3370 West Bayshore Road from LM (Limited
Industr ial/Rese:arch Park) to PC ( P lann<'.:!d Corr.rnuni ty Di st:r: ict Regula
tions). Said property is shown on a map attached hereto as Exhibit
"A" and incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. The Citv Council hereby finds with respect to the
subjecti)roperty t.hat: -
a. The site is so situated, and the uses p~oposed for the
site are of such characteristics that the application
of general districts will not provide sufficient flex
ibility to allm.,r the proposed developr<lent;
b. Development of the site under the provisions of the PC,
Planned Comrnun.ity District, will result in public bene··
fits not otherwise attainabl~ by application of the
regulations of general districts or co1nbining distr).cts,
including:
1. The proposed project will provlae a use of U1e site
which will not impact the jobs/housing in-u~aL:mc<:!
which exists in the City and will not impact the
peak hour commute traffic.
c. The uses within the proposed PC zone are consistent v1ith
the Comprehensive Plan and compatible with adjoining sites~
d. The project will not have a significant impact on the
environment; and,
e. The change of district is required by the public interest,
convenience and general welfare.
§.~TION 3. The dj aara:ns e_ntitled 1'Bekins Van and Storage Company ..
attached hereto as Exhibit "B" constitute the development plans and are
incorporated herein by reference. S.::tid development plan is approved
purs~ant to Section 18.68.120 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, subject
to the following conditions:
a. Use. Three (3) buildings totaling 42 1 825 square feet (first
and second floors) of mini-warehouse sp~ce. · The proposed
structure will have 524 total storage units.
b. ~mprov~men ~.
1. All improvements and development shall be substantially
in accordance with the approved development plans with
all applicable codes and ordinances; and with the re
quirements of the Director of Public Works/Engineei:i.ng t
the Director.of Utilities and the Chief of the ?alo Alto
Fire Department, including but not limited to~
(a) The developer shall construct a drainage system
within the property subject to the approval of
the City Engineer. No surface.drainage across
the sidewalk will be permitted.

(b) At the time of development, the develop&r
shall construct a standard City sidew&lk
along West Bayshore Frontage Road.
(c) All work shall be done in accordance with
City of Palo Alto Standard Specifications.
(d) Street opening permit·required from Public
Works/Engineering Department for all work
within street right-of-way.
{e) No street trae shall be removed or relocated
without written permission from the Parks
Department.
(f) Since the parcel i.s in the flood hazard
zone, developer shall comply ',•li th all re
quirements.
(g) Buildings shall have automatic sprinklers.
{h) The front driveway should be widened to
26'0" 'i::.o accommodate the ingres::-> ar1d egress
of proposed traffic,
2. The landscaping should be in accordance with the land
scape plan as approved by the ARB.
3.. Parce} Map. If the subject property is sold at a future
date, the owners shall effect an adjustment of the
northerly property line to insur.e co!ltinued avail~bility
of a 20 foot driveway at the northeast corner of the
pro~erty. This is required so that adequate fire circu
lation can be maintained in Uw future.
4. ~-arking Restricti~~':!· No t.ractor/trai lor rigs v.•ill be
allowed to use th1s site for overnight or temporary
storage or parking.
5. pevelopment. Schedule. Construction \vill comrnE:nce by
October 1 t l979 and wilJ. be completed by October 1,
1980. Project will be built as a single phase construc
tion project.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall becom~.l effective upon the com
'·mence:ment of the thirty-first day aft.er its adoption.
