AMENDING CHAP•.rER 4 • .l:O OF THE PALO AL~ MUNICIPAL
CODE TO PERMIT LICENSEES TO OPERATE OR MAIN~AIN
THE NUMBER OF MECHANICAL AMUSEMENT DEVICES EXIST-

The Colli'.eiil. of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN! as fel
lows:
SECTION 1. Section 4.10.120 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code l.S amP-nded t9. read as follows:

mechanical amuseaent devices.. No arc:ade sha be permitted
l.n the c1.ty, exc~pt that any licensee may continue to
install, operate or maintain the number of mechanical
arnusein,ent devices located in such licensee's premises on
May 8~ 1977. The licensee or applicant therefor shall
have the burden of establishing the precise number of
rnocha:nical runusF:men.t devices located in any premise."; on

of. ~o.')~ice for· failure to sus.t:.ain such bu:cden. No person
shall'install~ operaterc or maintain any r.1echanical amusement
device, including £hose in existe~ce 6r aparation prior to
May 8, 1977, ·without obtaining a license to do so on ·Yt
before July 1, 1977, for the ensuina vear. The provisions
of Chapt~r .. 4.04 shdll apply to all li;t:!nses required by

SECTION 2. The Counnil hereby ds:cermines that this ordinance
is not a proJect as de,fil{ed in Section 11. 04 .130 of the Palo Alto
Nunicipal Code and therefore no envi.ronmental ilupact assessment
is·· necessary •.
SECTION 3. This ordinanc~ .::ihall becom.e effective upon
. c~encement of .,the 3lfJ. day after the day of. its passage.
