ORDINANCE NO. 2 834
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12.16.020 OF
CHAPTER 12.16 OF TITLE 12 OF THE PALO ALTO
MUNICIPAL CODE BY ESTABLISHING U:~DERGROUND
UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 18
The Council of the City of Palo Alto, California, does ordain as
follows:
WHEREAS, this Council dld, on Octob~r 29, 1974, adopt its Resolu-
tion of Intention No. 5022 to establish Underground Utility District
No. 18, and appointed the 16th day of Decembe~, 1974, at the hour of
7: 30 o'clock P. f'r1. , in the Council Chambers, Clvi c Center, Palo Alto,
California, as the ti1ne and place of hearing protests and receiving
eviderice for and against said proposed action and directing notice;
WHEREAS, notiee was given of the time and place therein stated
in the manner provided by law, as appears from the certificate on file
in the office of the City Clerk;
WHEREAS, said matter came on regularly for hearing at the time
therein fixed; and
WHEREAS, all written protests and other written communications
were publicly read at said meet:l.ng and evidence duly taken and all
persons desiring to be heard were fully heard;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS FOUND, DETERMINED and ORDERED, as follows:
1. The puolic necessity, health and safety require ihe removal
of poles and overhead lines and associated overhead structures from
that certain area described in said Resolution of Intention No. 5022.
2. That this Council further finds and determines that such
undergrounding is in the general public interest for one or both of
the following reasons:
Such undergrounding will avoid or eliminate
an unusually heavy concentration of overhead
distribution fac!lities;
Said street or road or right-of-way is exten
siVely used by the general public ~nd carries
a heavy volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

3. That Section 12.16.020 of Chapter 12.16 of Title 12 of
the Palo Alto Municipal Code is amended by add1ng subsection (18)
thereto, said subsection (18) to read as follo~s:
n(l8) District No. 18. San Antonio Avenue from near
the southerly approach to the Bayshore Freeway interchange
southerly to Middlefield Roaa, removal ninety (90) days
after• completion and acceptance of the ~wrk."
4. The 11 Underground l!tility District Maps" referred to in said
Section 12.16.020 shall be amended to add the area shown on the map
referred to in said Resolution No. 5022.
5. This Ordinance shall become effective ~pon the expiration
ot thirty (30) days from its passage.

The foregoing Ordinance was duly and regularly introduced at a
regular meeting of the Council of the City of Palo Alto held on ths
16th day of . DFccember , 1974, and was thereafter at a regular
