FOR 'l'HE POSITIONS TJIR0UGH b (!J?}\NT FROM THE SANTi\

WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article
III of t.hc Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Counc:i.l did on
June 25, 1974, adopt a budget for fiscal year 1974-75; and
lvH~HEAS, on October 29, 1974 T the Counci 1 of the City oi
Palo Alto adopted the Affirmative Action Statement \vri tten by
the City Manager; and
WHEREAS, on October. 29, 1974; the C.i.ty Council approved in
princ::.ple the Affirmative Action plan net forth by thz Ci.ty
Manager; and
WHEREAS, the several occupational areas vli thin the C:i.ty
organization traditionally experience an underutilization of
women; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of certain trainee positions in
the Public Works, Utilities and Fire Departments may. help to
correct the underutilization of women employees in these occupa~
tional areas; and
WHEREAs,· the City has received funding from the Santa Clara
Valley Manpo\-1er Board to impleme·nt these trainee positions;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION L One position of Public \'.forks Trainee shall be

added to the table of organization of the Parks and Streets
Divisions, the salary and benefit appropriat_ions for each
division shall be increased by $6 1 173, and the department revenue
of each division shall be incroar.ed by $6,173.

SEC'l'ION 2. One position of Utilitian Trainee Hhnll be
added to the: table of orgard. z._-t tioL of the J,ighl .:m<l Po\·ter. and
.Water Divisionu, the salary and b~~~H~fit <lppropr:tation for
each division shall b2 incrC'<3Sc<l by $6,697, and the departmental
revenues of each division :;hall be increased by $6,69 7.
SEC'riON 3. One position of F'irefighter Trainee shall be
added to the table of organ~zation of the Fire Dep~rtment,
the sala:cy and benefit appropriation for the <~epartmcnt shall
be increased hy $8,652, and the clepartJncntal revenues of the Fire
Department shall be in9reased by $8,652.
SECTION 4. This ordinar:cc shall become effective immediately
as prpvided in Section l2 of Article II of the Charter and
Section 2.04.375 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code. ~
