ORDINANCE NO. 2757
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12.16.020 OF CHAPTER 12.16
OF TITLE 12 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE BY ESTAB
LISHING UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 16
The Council of the City of Palo Alto, California, does ordain as
.follows:
WHEREAS, this CQuncil did, on September 24, 1973, adopt its Reso
lution of Intention No. 4827 to establish Underground Utility District
No. 16, and Bppointed the 12th day of November, 1973~ a~ the hour or
7:30 o'cloclt P~M •. in the Council Chambers, Civic Center, Palo Alto,
California, as the time and place of hearing protests and receiving
evidence for and against said proposed action and directing notice;
WHEREAS, noti9e was given of the time and place therein stated
in the manner provided by law, as appears from the certificate on tilf!.
in the office of the City Clerk;
WHEREAS, said matter came on regularly f•Jr hearing at the time
ther"in fixed; and
WHEREAS, all written protests and other written communications
were publicly read at said meeting and evidence duly taken a~d all
persons desiring to be heard were tully heard;
!iOW, THEREFORE, IT IS FOUND, DETERMINED ~nd ORDERED, as folloWe:··
1. The public necessity, health and safety require the removal
of poles and overhead lines and associated overhead structures from
that certain area described.in said Resolution of Intention No. 4827~
2. That thi.s Councii further finds and determines that such
undergrounding is in the general public interest for one or more of
~he following reasons:
Such undergroundin~ will avoid or eliminate an unusually
heavy concentration or overhead distribution facilities;
Said street or road or right-of ... way is extensively used
by the general public and carries a heavy volume of
pedestrian and vehicular traffic;
Said street or road or right-of-way adjoins or passes
tnrough a civic area.

3~ That Section 12.16.020 of Chapter 12.16 of Title 12 of the
Palo Alto Municipal Code is emended by adding Subsection (16) there
to, said Subsection {16) to read as follows:
11 (16) District No. 16. Louis Road from East Meadow
Drive to a point near Lorna Verde Avenue, together with
properties fronting thereon which require underground
service conversion, removal ninety (90) days after comple
tion and acceptance·or the work."
4. The "Underground Utility District Maps 11 referred to in said
Suction 12.16.020 shall be amentied to add the area shown on the map
referred to ln said Resol;~tion No. 4827.
5~ This Ordinance shall become-effective upon the expiration
of thirty (30) days from :its passage.

The foregoing Ordi"'"''1ce was l\uly and :regularly introduced at a
reg1Jlar meeting of the Council of the City of Palo Alto held on the
12th day of November, 1973, and "'as thereafter at a regular meeting
held on the 26th day of Novemb~r, l973, duly and regularly passed
