ORDINANCE NO. 2718 ·--
ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
SUSPENDING OPERATION OF SECTION 16.48.020 OF THE
PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE AND DECLARING ~~ EMERGENCY
WHEREAS 1 on February 26, 1973, Ordinance No. 2703 was
adopted by the Council of the City of Palo Alto; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 2703 added Chapter 16.48 to the
Palo Alto Municipal Code, creatirig an Architectural Review Board
and specifying its jurisdiction, duties, pmvers, and standards
for review; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 3 of Ordinance No. 2703,
Section 16.48.020 becomes effective on April 30, 1973, or such
earlier time that the Architectural Review Board notifies the
Building Official, Director of Planning, and Zoning Administrator
that it is ready to carry out its review duties under this
chapter, whichever occurs sooner; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto has not yet
appointed an Architectui:al Revie'll Board; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Palo Alto is unable to
make such appointments prior to April 30, 1973; and
WHEREAS, insufficient time exists to amend Ordinance No.
2703 in the normal course, to extend such effective date,
therefore requiring that the operation of Section 16.48.020 be
suspended as an emergency measure;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
ORDAIN as fo~lows:
SECTION 1. Sec~ion 3 of Ordinance No. 2703 is hereby amended
to read ad follows:
''The operation of Section 16 . 4 8. 0 2 0 is hereby suspended
\mtil such time as the Council has selected at least four
of the five members of the Architectural Review Board 1 and

such board notifies the Building Official, Director of
Planning, and Zoning Administrator that it is prepared to
carry out its review duties under this chapter.11
SECTION 2. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 2.04.330(c)
and Section 2.04.375(4} of the Palo Alto Municipal Code, this
ordinance shall become effective upon its adoption.
