ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF 'l'HE CI'l1 Y OF PALO ALTO AMENDING SECTION_ 16. 48. 020 01', THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE TO EXEMPT PROJECTS WHICH OBTAIN APPROVAL OF THE CITY COUNCIL UNDER CHAPTER 18.82 (SITE: AND DESIGN CONTROL DISTRICT) FROM ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. Section 16.48.020 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is amended to read: 11 16.48.020 Applicability of chapte~. No nermit issued under Title 16 of this code shall be issued except after approval of the design of the project by the Architectural Review Board or the City Council, as the case may be, in_ cornpli ance with this chapter. Public property and projects are subject to the requirements of this chapter. This chapter shall apply to all new construction in the city, including paved areas, and all other exterior work and signs which require a permit from the city~ Singly developed ·slnql0 family dwellings and duplexes, and additions thereto, ~re exem!'t from th.is chapter. The director of planning, building official, and zoning-administrator shall have dis­ cretion to submit applications for fences, variances and use permits to the Architectural Review Board when in their judg­ ment a significant effect upon the aesthetic character of the city or the area affected may be caused thereby. Plans for P-C (Planned Co11Ut1unity) developments shall be acted upon by the Architectural Review Board prior to action there­ on by the Planning Co1nmission, provided that in the event significant land use decisions are involved, the director of planning or the Architectural Review Board may first send the application to the Planning Commission for a decision thereon. This Chapter does not apply to any wor.k for which approval has been obtained from the City Council or work which is in the process of review by the Planning Commision pursuant to Chapter 18.82 of this code."
