ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
P..MENDIHG SECTIONS 16.20,105 AND 16.20.180 AND
ADDING SECTION 16.20.200(e) TO THE PALO AI,TO
MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROHIBIT ROOF SIGNS AND TO GRANT
THE ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD AUTHORITY TO DIS-
APPROVE CERTAIN SIGNS
The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as fol-
SEC'l'ION 1. Section 16. 20 .lOS of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
"16.20.105 Prohibited signs. No
flashing, moving, or roof signs shall here
inafter be erected within the city. Flashing
or moving signs for which a sign permit was
issued prior to April 3, 1969, are hereby
declared to be nonconforming and shall be
amortized in accordance with the provisions
of this chapter, Roof signs for which a
sign permit was issued prior to November
28, 1973, are hereby declared to be non
conforming."
SECTION 2. Section 16.20.200 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code is amended to add subsection (e) thereto to read as
follows:
11 (e) Notwithstanding any other provision
of this chapter, the architectural review
board of the city of Palo Alto may disapprove
one type of sign where a combination of two
or more types is permitted."
SECTION 3, Section 16o20.180 of the Palo Alto Municipal
Code is hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. None of the provisions of this ordinance
will have a significant adverse e1~vironmental impact.

SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect thirty days
after its passage.
