HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 2747• • ORIGINAL ORDINANCE NO. 274r_ ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO ADDING SECTION 2.04.390 TO THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL ' CODE AND AMENDING SECTION 2.16.030 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE TO AUTHORIZE EXPENSE ALLOWANCES FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, BOARDS, AND COMMISSIONS WHEREAS, members of the City Council, City boards, and City commissions regularly incur incidental expenses in varying amounts for local mileage, telephone calls, paperwork, and the like in their service to the City; and WHEREAS, since it is unduly burdensome and difficult to tabulate such recurring expenses on a day-to-day basis, said individuals receive no reimbursement for said recurring expenses; and WHEREAS, there is no provision in the Palo.Alto Municipal Code at present formally au~~orizing reimbursement for said expenses, NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. Section 2.04.390 hereby is added to the Palo Alto Municipal Code to read as follows: 2.04.390 Expense allowance for council membero. The city council, by resolution, may establisfi an_ expense allowance s~hedule at a fixed periodic rate, based upon estimated expenditures over an extended period of time, to-reimburse members of the city council for expensea incurred in their service 35 members of the city council~" SECTION 2. Section 2.16.030 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code hereby is amended to read as follows: 2~l6.030 Compensation; expense allowance. All members of boards and commissions snail serve without compensation as members thereof. This ordinance shall become effective upon the expiration of thirty days from its passage.
