ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING CHAPTER l6.04 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL
. CODE TO ADOPT VOLUME II·I (HOUSING) OF THE UNIFORM
BUILDING CODE, 1970 EDITION, AND TO MAKE CERTAIN
NECESSARY CHANGES THEREIN
WHEREAS, on Apr:il 20, 1970, by Resol'..ltion No. 43 45 the
C6uncilof the City of P~lo Alto stated its sripport of the goal
of. uniformity in construction codes; and
WHEREAS, Section 7 of Chapter 1436, Statutes of 1970., coi'l-
. ~ !
• t~ins a declarati~~'by the Legislature that the uniformity of
construct.i:on .codes throughout the State of California is a matter
of state\'iide interest and concern, and· the Legislature further de
, ' ?lared. tnat uniformity can be achieved within a framework of
local autonomy by allowing local governments to adopt changes
rnaki~lg modifications in. uniform codes based on differences in
local condi tiCJns, but. requiring express f indir1gs as to t:he reasons

WHEREAS, Section 17958,, 5 of the Health and Safety Code pro-

Whenever the terms "uniform building code" or
"housing code" appear in this code or any ordinance of
the city, such term shall be deemed and construed to
refer and apply tc the appropri~te volume of the uni
form building code, 1970 edition, as adopted and amended
by this code." ·
SECTION 2~ The following changes, modific?tions, amendments
and additions to the uniform building code, Volume III, are
adopted because of local conditions. Findings of the reasons for
tl}e·same are· hereby.made pursuant to Section 17958.t of .lhe Health
and Safety Code of the State of California.
