2582 ORDINANCE NO.
ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING SECTION 16.20.140 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL
CODE TO I:JCLUDE EXPRESSWAYS AND OTHER LIMITED ACCESS
STREETS AND HIGHWAYS TO PROHIBITION OF OFF SI'l'E SIGNS
The· Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 16.20.140 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code is
hereby amended to read as follows;
"16.20.140 Si ns en landsca ed freewa s. Notwithstanding
anything elsewhere contained in this c apter, no sign shall
be erected on any property adja~ent to a section of land
scaped freeway, expre~sway or any other landscaped limited
access stre~t or highway in such a way as to be viewed by
ipersons traveling on such landsca~ed free~ay, expressway
or any other landscaped limited access street or highwny,
except when such sign is used exclusively:
(a) To advertise the sale or lease of the property upon
which the sign is situated; or
\b) To designate the name, of the ownP-r or·0ccupant of the
premises upon which the sign is situated, 0r to identify
such premises.
Any sign which is now or hereafter ~hall be iti violation of
this section shall be removed within one year from ehe date
when a freeway, expressway or any other limi t_ed access street
·or highway section shall have been landscaped. 11
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall b~come effective upon the
expiration of tLi.:rty days from its passage.
