ORDINANCE NO. 2570
ORDINANCE OF THE·COUNClL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 22.08.230
TEMPORARILY TO DELETE THEREFROM CERTAIN LANDS
DEDICATED FOR PARK,_PLAYGROUND, RECREATION OR
CONSERVATION PURPOSES
(PALO ALTO AREA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN NATIONAL
RED CROSS LEASE}
WHEREAS, pursuant to Article VIII of the Charter of the
City of Palo Alto the council passed Ordinance No. 2252 (now
Chapter 22.08 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code) setting forth
in separately numbered sections the common name or other
designation and the legal description of those lands owned
or controlled by the City which are used or intended to be
user\ for park purposes; and
WHEREAS, on June 2, 1970, the voters of the City of Palo
Alto, in an election duly called and held pursuant to Atticle
VIII of the Charter, voted temporarily to discontinue for
park, playground, recreation or conservation p~rposes the use
of certain lands <l.edicated to said uses and set forth in said
Chapter 2·2 • 08 ,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 22.08.230 of the Palo Alto Municipal

Code is hereby amended by temporari'ly deleting from the p·arcel

known as El Cand.no Park that portion of said parcel described
in Exhibit A attached hereto until October 14, 1970, at which
time the use o·f said pa·rcel shall revert to the uses sP.t. forth
'' in Chapter 22.08 and the City Engineer is directed to s0-'iildicate
on Exhibit A-19 to Section 22.08.230.
SECTION 2. Ex1cept-as hereinabpve amended, Chapter 22 • 08
of the Palo Alto Munici.pal Code shall remain in· full force

and effect.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall ·become effective imtned•
iately. as provided in Section 2.04.375 of .the Palo Alto
Municipal Code.

Area Leased to PALO ALTO AREA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
All that real property in the City of Pa lo Alto, County of Santa Clara,
State of California, described a~ follows:
COMM~NCING at the intersection of the southwesterly line of the
Southern· Pacific Railroad Company's. right-of-way, 230 feet in
width, (as described in that certain easement of Leland Stanford
to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, dated November Z.3,
1892, and recorded October 28, 191 5, in Volume 435 _of Deeds at
page 244, Santa Clara County Records, in which the bearing of
said line is called North 51° 28 1 West, which line is aiso the
southwesterly line of that certain easement {Palo Alto. Agreement
No. 224) granted by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company to the
City of Palo Alto by Agreement dated October 2, 1939, and recorded
November 27, 1939 in Book 954 of Official Records, page 567,
Santa Clara County Records~ with the center 'line of University
Avenue produ{;ed southwesterly, as said University Avenue exists
75 feet in width (said intersection being the most easterly point
of Parcel 1 as described in that certain lease of the Board of
Trustees of Leland Stan Cord Junior University to the City of Palo
Alto (Palo Alto Lease No. 3) dated June 10, 1915 and recorded by
Stanford University on September 23, 1915; in Vo}. P of Leases at
page 333 et seq .• Sahta Clara' County Records; in which the bearing .·
of said lin,e is called North 51 °45 1 West); thence North 51 "45 1 West
a:long said southwesterly-line a distance of 467. 50.feet to the inter
section o[ said line of right-of-way with the center line of .t~ytton
Avenue (prolonged); thence' South 38 ° 15 1 West, along saiu center
line of Lytton Avenue {prolonged). a distance of 81. 00 feet to a
point on the southwesterlyrnost line of Parcel No. 2., City of Palo
Alto Agreement No. 46, dated Oc.tober 2, 1939 and recorded October
30, 1939 in Book 951 of Offidal Records,·· page 580, Santa Clara
c;;ounty Recorcls, which point is the true point of commencement;
thence South 51 °45 1 East, along said southwesterlymost line, a
distance of 25.00 fe~t; thence South 38°15' West a distance of 120.00
feet; thence North 51°45' West a distance'of ZOO. 00 fee't; thence
North 38 ° '_.5• East a distance of l ZO. 00 feet to a point on the above
mentioned southwesterlymost line of Patee! No. Z; thence South 51 °
