The Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as fo11'!fv'/f'111
SECTION 1. Subsection (12) of Section 16.20.010 of the Palo
Alto Municipal Code ls hereby amended to read as follows:
"-'12) Temeorar~ sign. 'l'he term "ternnorary sign n
shall mean and inclu e any sign constructed of paper,
cloth, canvas, light fabric, cardboard, wallboard, or
other light material, with or without frames. Spinners,
pennants, balloons, banners, and streamers used as signs
are not temporary signs and are prohibited."
SEC'rION 2. Section 16. 20. 060 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"16.20_.060 :1'~meorary sitn permits. ___ ?'.'.he permit fee
for any temporary sign as de ined herein shall be ten
dollars and shall authorize the erection and maintenance
of such sign for an uninterrupted period not to exceed
fifteen days. The period of the permit may be extended
once for ah additi6na·1 fifteen days' upon the payment of ten
dollars. The permit shall be issued for specific dates,
and the beginning and ending dates shall appear on the
face of the permit. From the date of issuance of the
permit, no permit shall be issued for one year for any
one place of business. The maximum area of all temporary
signs shall be calculated from Table 3, provided that each
place of business may have up to sixty square feet."
SECTION 3. Si:ction 16.20.065 is hereby added to the Palo

Alto Municipal Code' to read as follows:
11 16.20,065 Failure to obtain permit. Whenever a
sign has been erected without a permit having been first
. obtained 'therefor, the fee for any permit issued under
this chapter shall be doubled to cover the additional
expen~e to the city."
SECTION 4. Section 16.20.310 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code
is hereby amended to-read as follows:
"16.20.310 vehicles prohibited.

SECTION 5. This ordinance shall become effective upon the
expiration of thirty days from the date of its passage.
