ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PAI~O ALTO
CALLING A SPECI}U, ELECTION TO SUBMIT TO THE ELECTORS
THE QUESTION OF TEMPORARY DISCONTINUANCE OF THE USE
OF CERTAIN LANDS AS A PUBLIC PAP.K ,' · .AND REQUESTINt1 .
' CONSOLIDATION OF SAID ELECTION WI.TH THE 1970 DIRECT
PRIMARY ELECTION
..:: WHEREAS, pursuant to the requirements of Article VIII of
the Charter of the City of Palo Alto, the Council did by Ordi-
nance No. 2252 dedicate lands known as El Camino Park for.park
purposes, and
WHEREAS, the Council desires to extend to October 13, 1976
the existing lease between the City and the.American National
Red Cross, Palo Alto Area Chapter, covering a .551 acre portion
of said El Camino Park, as delineated on the map marked EXHIBIT A
attached hereto, and as'more particularly described in EXHIBIT B
attached hereto, and
WH£RE:AS, a five~year extension of said lease is consistent
with the intent of the parties at the time of its execution on
October 14, 1946 and will permit the Red Cross to amortize its
investment.in improvements at this site made in contemplation of
the full lease period of thirty years, a:nd
WHEREAS, the Council by Resolution-No. 4332 did determine
that the.publicinterest or convenience requires the temporary
discontinuance of the use as a public park of the portion of
El Camino-Park described in said exhibits for the purpose herein-
above stated, and
WHEREAS, the Council by said ·R.esolutton No. 4332 did announce

City of Palo Alto as the time and pl~ce at which the public or
persons particularly interasted may protest such discontinuance,
and
_WHEREAS, no written protest was filed µrior to the hour set
for said hearing,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Ai.to does
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. A special election is hereby called to be held
in the City of Palo Alto on Tuesday, June 2, 1970, at which
election the following proposition shall be submitted to the
electorate of said city:
Proposition
Shall an area of approximately .551 acres, a
part of El Camino Park in the .City of Palo Alto,
be discontinued for park purposes through October 13,
1976 under authority of Article VIII of the Charter
of the City of Palo Alto, in order th.at the Palo Alto
Chapter of the American National Red Cross can complete
the term of it~ lease of said site, said area to be
restored automatically as park dedicated land from and
after October 14, 19767

of general circulation published and circulated in the City, in
substantial conformity with the requirements of section 22835 of
the Elections Code, and to give any other notice of said election
required by 1aw.

SECTION 4. The Doard of Superviso1~s-of the County· of
Santa Clara is hereby requested to order the consolidation of
.saitl_special park abandonment election with the direct primary
. -( -
election to be_ held on June :?., 1970.
SECTION s. This ordinance, being an ordinance calling an
election. shall take effect upon adoption pursuant to Section
2.04.375 of the Palo Alto Municipal Code.

southwesterly line. of the Southern Pacific Railro~d Corapany's
right-of~way, 230 feet in width, (as described in that ce~tain
easement of Leland Stanford to the Southern Pacific Railroad
Company, dated November 23, 1892~ and recorded October 28, 1915,
in Votu~c ~35 of Deeds ~t page 244, Santa Clara County Records,
in which the bearing of saJ.d line is called North 51° 28' ,.lest,
which line is also the southwesterly line of that certain ease
ment (Palo Alto Agreement No. 224) granted by the southern .
Pacific Railroad Company to the CJ.ty of Palo Alto by Agreement
