, AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 12 .16. 020 01<., CHAPTER 12 .16
OF TITLE 12 OF THE PALO ALTO MUNICIPAL CODE BY ESTAB
LISHING UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 12
The Council of the City of Palo Altoj California, does ordain
as follows:
WHEREAS, this Council did, on December 8, 1969, adopt its
Resolution of Intention No. 4314 to establish Underground Utility
District No. 12,. and appointed the (?nd day of February, 1970, at
the hour or 7:30 0 1 clock P.M., in the Council Chambers, City Hall,
Palo Alto~ California, as the time and place of hearing protests
and receiving evidence for and against said proposed action and
directing notice;
WHEREAS, notice was given of the time and place therein
stated in the manner provided by law, as appears from the affi
davits on file in the office of the City Clerk;
WHEREAS, said matter came on regularly for hearing at the
time therein fixed; and
'WHEREAS, all written protests and other written communica
tions were publicly read at said meeting and evidence duly taken
and all persons desiring to be heard were fully heard;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ]:c'OUND, DETERMINED and ORDERED, as
follows:
1. The public necessity, health and safety require the
removal o·r poles and overhead J,ines and associated overhead struc-
tures from that certain area described in said Resolution of ..
the following reasons:

Said streets or roads or rights-of-way are exten
sively used by the general public and carry a heavy
volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic;
Said streets or roads or rights-of-way adjoin or
pass through a civic area.
3. That Section 12.16.020 of Chapter 12.16 of Title 12 of
the Palo Alto Municipal Code is amended by adding Subsection (12)
thereto, said Subsection (12) to read as follows:
11 (12) District No. 12. All lands within the City
of Palo Alto adjacent to Middlefield Road from Oregon
Expressway to the southeasterly City limits, removal
ninety (90) days after completion and acceptance of
of the work. 11
4. The "Underg~ound Utility District Maps 11 referred to in
said Section 12.16~020 shall be amended to add the area shown on
the map referred to in said Resolution No. 4314.
5. This Ordinance shall become effective upon the expiration
of thirty (30) days from its passage. '' .-:,· ...

The foregoing Ordinance was duly and regularly introduced at
a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Palo Alto held on
the 2nd day of February , 1970, and was thereafter at a
regular meeting held on the 16th day of February___~, 1970, duly
and regularly passed by the following'vote:
AYES: Arnold, Beahrs, Berwald, Clark, Dias, Gallagher
Norton, Spaeth, Wheatley
