All signs shall con:ply ~i.th the following location require

SEC. 34.410 SIGNS ON LA~DSCAPED FREEWAYS
Notwithstanding anythin.g elsewherE: contained in, this divisionr
no sign shall be erected on a·ny property adjacent to a section of
landscaped freeway in such a way as to be viewed by persons travel-
,~ ing on such landscaped free~ay, except when. such sign is used
exclusively:
(a) . to advE"rtise che s~le or l~~ase of the property upon which the
sign is situated; or
(b) to designate th:e name of tl':.e owner or occupant o£ the premises
upon which th2 sign is situated~ or to identify such premises.
Any sign which is now or hereafter shall be in violation of
this section shall be removed within one year from the date when

Every sign er~~c:ted or proposad to be erected shall be class
ified by thE~ Build.:lug· Official in accordance with the provisions
of this division. Any sign which does not clearly fall within
one of the c:lass.ificadons providad herein shall be placed in
the classification wh:Lch the sigr1, in view of its design, loca
tion and purpose) mos1: nearly approxima:t:es. Such classification
by the Building Offici~al when made in good faith shall be final.
SEC. 34.418 .9)N:.[!]:YC.JION ANI!a m_IN~~Ct.
The appropriHte sectiona of the Bui.lding Code (Division 1)
shall apply to thi~ co.o.st:ruction of signs. All signs shall be
able to resist. th.:: .ep.plicable ·wind leach~ set forth in Table 23-C
of the Building C'•de, . unless Lor good cause some lesser wind
resistance is endc,rsed upon the permit by the Building Official.
All signs having builtMin illumination t~hall be constructed
wholly of metal, /incom,uot:ible plastic or other approved fire
resistant material. G1Jy wires or horizcmtal struts shall not be used. Signs and sign structures shall be maintained at all
times in a state of good repair, with &11 braces, bolts., and
structural parts an.d supporting fra~s and fastenings free from
deterioration, rot, ru~lt and loosening.
Without limi.t:l:o..g t:he foregoing, no person shall main::ain or
permit .to be maint<~ined: on any premises owned Ol~ controlled by
him any sign which i,s in a sagg~.ng, learlling, fallen, decayed,
deteriorated or othe:r dilapidated or uns.afe condition.

(b) Record of Nonconf<>rm:·~ng Sifns. Within one year of the

provisions of this di'lisic•n and file the same in his office.
Within six (6) ·months afte:r said filir~g the Building Official
shall cause to be mai:~ed to the ownent ·of property on which
nonconforming signs are located notic€: of the existence of such
nonconforming signs ax~d the time withtn which the s~me must be
made to conform or aba.ted. For purpof:es of such notification,
the last known name ar::d address of th~:: owner of the property in
question shall be used as s!:1own upon t:he records of the City
Clerk or the last equal.ized assessment: roll of the City. Notifi
cation t? su:eh owner of the property s:hall be deemed to be notifi
cation to the <.lwner of the sign in que:stion. The mailing of such

No person shall mai::ttai:n or permit: to. be maintained on any
premises owned or cont:ro iled by him any s:tgn which has been
a?andoned, Any ~'luc.h sigrl sh.~ll prottptly be abated by the own.er
o·r such other persor;. Any s.lgn which is located on property
wh:tch becomes vac:an.t and uno.::cupied for a pericd of three (3)
mon.ths or more 1 and any Hign which "'as erected for au occupant

Whenever .:a sign is found to be erected or maintained in
violation. of any provisi<:>n of this o:r of any other ordinance or
law. the Buiidin.g Officia.l shall order that such sign be altered,
repaired:, reconstructed, dem<;.lished or removed as may be appro
priate 1;:o abate such concitiCin. Any work required to be done
shall, unless a diffe.rent tixne is specified~ be completed within
t:en. ( 1 0) days of the da t.e of such order.
Failure, neglect· or refu.sal to comply with such order of
the Buildir~g Official shall be sufficient basis for t:he revoca
tioo. of any permit gran.t:ed under this division and shall consti
tute a separate offense .
