SERVICES SERVING STANFORD MEDICINE
WHEREAS, Jewish Chaplaincy Services serving Stanford Medicine, a program of Jewish Family and
Children’s Services, has for 25 years faithfully provided spiritual care, comfort, and guidance to patients, families,
and staff at Stanford Medicine; and
WHEREAS, the program has been a pioneering bridge between the wisdom of Jewish tradition and the
science of medicine, integrating spirituality, compassion, and meaning into healthcare and daily life; and
WHEREAS, professional chaplains and specially trained volunteers bring solace during times of illness,
trauma, and uncertainty, offering compassionate presence, attentive listening, and, when appropriate, prayers and
blessings; and
WHEREAS, Jewish Chaplaincy Services supports patients of all ages and backgrounds, fosters connection
to the Jewish community and its resources, and ensures that no one faces illness alone; and
WHEREAS, the program enriches the medical community by educating physicians, students, clergy, and
volunteers about the essential role of spirituality in healing, including through an award-winning curriculum at
the Stanford School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, as part of JFCS’ Spiritual Care and Healing program, Jewish Chaplaincy Services connects
patients and families to vital community resources and a continuum of care beyond the hospital walls.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Ed Lauing, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, do hereby honor Jewish Chaplaincy
Services serving Stanford Medicine, a program of Jewish Family and Children’s Services, on the occasion of its
25th Anniversary; commend its outstanding contributions to health, healing, and spiritual well-being; and extend
our deepest gratitude to its chaplains, volunteers, and supporters whose compassion and dedication continue to
touch countless lives.
