ATTACHMENTS Attachment A: Public Service Recognition Proclamation 2025 APPROVED BY: Sandra Blanch, Human Resources Director Proclamation PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION WEEK May 4 - 10, 2025 WHEREAS, Americans are served every single day by public servants at the federal, state, county and city levels. These unsung heroes do the work that keeps our nation working; and across our nation, public employees take not only jobs, but oaths of office; and WHEREAS, many public servants risk their lives each day in service to the people of our communities, as well as provide safety inspections and patrols, maintain our infrastructure, operate our public facilities, and provide the diverse services demanded by the American people with integrity and diligence; and WHEREAS, public servants provide the institutional knowledge, experience, and continuity that supports the long term sustainability of our community assets and organizational history; and WHEREAS, here in our city, our staff promotes and sustains the superior quality of life in Palo Alto, and in partnership with our community delivers cost-effective services in a personal, responsive, and innovative manner; and WHEREAS, over the past year alone, our city staff have: •Oversaw the lending of over 1 million library materials; •Cleaned and treated 90+ miles of sewer lines; •Repaired or replaced over 15,000 square feet of sidewalk; •Processed 5,800 employee personnel transactions; •Facilitated the participation of over 14,000 individuals in a variety of classes, camps, and programs spanning arts, sciences, recreational activities and open space. •Maintained 32 parks and over 36,000 trees; •Provided nearly 4,000 ambulance transports; •Answered over 140,000 calls to the dispatch center, and received nearly 40,000 police calls for service; •Installed over 23,400 electric Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters; •Issued over 4,500 building and fire permits; and, •Completed over 19,000 building inspections. And much more, all with the professionalism we know and appreciate, day in and day out. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ed Lauing, the Mayor of the City of Palo Alto do hereby proclaim that May 4, 2025 to May 10, 2025, is Public Service Recognition Week. All citizens are encouraged to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of government employees at all levels — federal, state, county and city – and especially our City of Palo Alto employees.
