Honoring Ethan Lee
WHEREAS, Ethan Lee, a Crystal Springs Uplands High School student and esteemed Palo Alto
Resident, not only participated in the prestigious C-SPAN StudentCam 2024 competition but also secured a
remarkable third place with his thought-provoking documentary, Threads of Change.
WHEREAS, this documentary, a testament to Ethan's dedication and talent, delves into the perils of fast
fashion and textile waste, shedding light on its detrimental effects on our environment and society through the
ever-changing trends in consumer spending.
WHEREAS, C-SPAN, now in its 20th year, this project-based learning experience allows students to
explore multiple perspectives on topics that are important to them. Over 3,200 students participated in response,
and C-SPAN received over 1,600 entries from 42 states and Washington, D.C. In cooperation with its Bay Area
cable television partner, Comcast, middle and high school students were asked to address the theme, “Looking
Forward while Considering the Past,” through one of the following prompts: In the next 20 years, what is the
most critical change that you would like to see in America? -OR- Over the past 20 years, what has been the
most important change in America?
WHEREAS, Ethan addressed the competition prompt remarkably, providing many great examples
throughout the documentary. This left viewers to self-reflect on how their personal use of fast fashion has
impacted the environment and society. The documentary also highlighted the effect changes in fashion waste
over the past 20 years and in the future will have on the environment, leaving a lifetime of impact in its wake.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Greer Stone, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City Council, do
hereby recognize Ethan Lee for his exemplary contributions to raising awareness among his peers and
community of the dangers and effects of fast fashion while promoting fundamental views of sustainability.

Proclamation
Honoring An Nguyen, Liam Johnson, and Annelise Sailer WHEREAS, An Nguyen, Liam Johnson, and Annelise Sailer, Palo Alo High School students, not only
participated in the prestigious C-SPAN StudentCam 2024 competition but also secured a remarkable Honorable
Mention with their thought-provoking documentary, The Future of AI in Education.
WHEREAS, this documentary, a testament to the trio's dedication and talent, delves into the complexities of
AI and the potential impacts its use can have if implemented in Education. It also highlights the lack of equitable
access to AI software by low-income individuals and how that can further divide and hurt students.
WHEREAS, C-SPAN, now in its 20th year, with this project-based learning experience, allows students to
explore multiple perspectives on topics that are important to them. Over 3,200 students participated in response,
and C-SPAN received over 1,600 entries from 42 states and Washington, D.C. In cooperation with its Bay Area
cable television partner, Comcast, middle and high school students were asked to address the theme, “Looking

most critical change that you would like to see in America? -OR- Over the past 20 years, what has been the
most important change in America?
WHEREAS, An, Liam, and Annalise remarkably addressed the competition prompts with many great
examples throughout the documentary, leaving viewers to further analyze their own views and perhaps implicit
bias concerning the application of AI in Education as research shows no correlation to increased cheating with
AI use. While also touching on the past 20 years of evolution to the AI expansion and the ever-evolving abilities
of AI to adapt for future use in education.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Greer Stone, Mayor of the City of Palo Alto, on behalf of the City Council, do
hereby recognize all three students for their exemplary contributions to raising awareness among their peers and
community of the potential and complex application of AI in the future of Education.
